Frederic Adolph Hoefer
Frederic Adolph Hoefer (14 April 1850 – 7 October 1938) was a Dutch lieutenant-general, militaria collector and archivist. He trained at the Koninklijke Militaire Academie and is notable for founding the Legermuseum and restoring Doorwerth Castle. Sittard
Sittard (; ) is a city in the Netherlands, situated in the southernmost province of Limburg. The town is part of the municipality of Sittard-Geleen and has almost 37.500 inhabitants in 2016. In its east, Sittard borders the German municipality of Selfkant (in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia). The city centre is located at 45 m above sea level. History Archaeological discoveries have dated the first settlement in the Sittard area around 5000 B.C. Present day Sittard is assumed to have been founded around 850 A.D. and to have been built around a motte. Sittard was first mentioned in 1157. It was granted city rights by the Duke of Limburg in 1243. In 1400 it was sold to the Duchy of Jülich, and remained in its possession until 1794. The city was destroyed and rebuilt repeatedly, due to fires and various conflicts during the 15th-17th century. Kampen, Overijssel
Kampen () is a city and municipality in the province of Overijssel, Netherlands. A member of the former Hanseatic League, it is located at the lower reaches of the river IJssel. The municipality of Kampen had a population of in and covers an area of . Kampen is located in the North West of Overijssel and is the largest city in this region. The city of Kampen itself has around 37,000 inhabitants. Kampen has one of the best preserved old town centres of the Netherlands, including remains of the ancient city wall (of which three gates are still standing) and numerous churches. Wilsum
Wilsum is a small city in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located in the municipality of Kampen, about 4 km southeast of that city. History The city was first mentioned in 1213 as Wilsem, and means "settlement of Willa (person)". Wilsum developed on the dike along the IJssel River. Wilsum received city rights in 1331. The Dutch Reformed church was built in the middle of the 11 century. The spire dates from 1837. The tower probably served as a place of refuge as well, because the top can only be reached by a ladder. Thanks to several restorations (the last one being between 1980 and 1983) the church is still in a very good state. In 1527, a sconce was built near the city, however it was destroyed the next year. Hasselt, Overijssel
Hasselt is a city in the municipality of Zwartewaterland about 7 km (4.3 mi) north of Zwolle, in the Dutch province of Overijssel. After it received city rights in 1252, it became a member of the Hanseatic League around 1350. The city suffered an economic downfall from about 1550 on, as other cities proved to be better situated and equipped for trade and commerce. In 2001 the municipalities of Hasselt, Genemuiden and Zwartsluis were united in the municipality of Zwartewaterland, of which Hasselt became the administrative centre. As of 1 January 2021, Hasselt had a population of 7,385. Zeist
Zeist () is the capital and largest town of the municipality of Zeist. The town is located in the Utrecht province of the Netherlands, east of the city of Utrecht. History The town of "Seist" was first mentioned in a charter in the year 838. The original settlement was located at the present ''Dorpsstraat''. In the late 12th century, a church was built here. Its tower is now a part of the Reformed Church, the remainder of which was built in the 19th century. Until medieval times, a branch of the river Rhine flowed close to the centre of the town. Three mansions were built near the village: the ''Huis te Zeist'', Kersbergen, and Blikkenburg.
