Fred Wilson (baseball)
Fred Wilson (August 31, 1908 – September 27, 1948), nicknamed "Sardo", was an American Negro league outfielder in the 1930s and 1940s. A native of Palatka, Florida, Wilson was serving time in a Miami prison in the late 1930s when he was offered his release if he would sign with the Newark Eagles. Wilson was the player-manager of the Cincinnati Clowns in 1943, and was selected to play in the East–West All-Star Game that season. Wilson served in the US Army during World War II. Known for his erratic and sometimes violent behavior, Wilson reportedly stabbed teammate Dave Barnhill David Barnhill (October 30, 1914 – January 8, 1983) was an American Negro league baseball pitcher. Barnhill played from 1937 to 1949, mostly with the New York Cubans. He also played for the New York Giants in the minor leagues from 1949 to 1953 ... in 1944, causing Barnhill to miss the season. Fred Wilson (politician)
Fred Wilson (born ) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. He served as a New Democratic Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1990 to 1995, and was a cabinet minister in the government of Bob Rae. Background Wilson was born in Toronto. He went to school at Algonquin College and the University of Ottawa. After graduation, he joined the army where he was stationed in Kingston, Ontario. After leaving the army he worked at Bell Canada and then as a sector representative at the Workers' Compensation Board in Kingston. Politics Wilson was elected to the Ontario legislature in the provincial election of 1990, defeating incumbent Liberal Larry South by 1,400 votes in the rural Eastern Ontario riding of Frontenac—Addington. The NDP formed a majority government and Wilson was appointed as parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Correctional Services. Fred Wilson (born 1954) in the Bronx, New York - is an American artist and describes himself as of "African, Native American, European and Amerindian" descent. He received a BFA from Purchase College, State University of New York. Wilson challenges colonial assumptions on history, culture, and race – encouraging viewers to consider the social and historical narratives that represent the western canon. Wilson received a MacArthur Foundation "genius grant" in 1999 and the Larry Aldrich Foundation Award in 2003. Wilson represented the United States at the Biennial Cairo in 1992 and the Venice Biennale in 2003. In May 2008, it was announced that Wilson would become a Whitney Museum trustee replacing Chuck Close. Career An alumnus of Music & Art High School in New York, Wilson received a BFA from SUNY Purchase in 1976, where he was the only black student in his program.
