Fred S. Roberts
Fred Stephen Roberts (born June 19, 1943)Curriculum vitae
from Roberts' web site, retrieved 2010-02-16. is an American mathematician, a professor of mathematics at Rutgers University, and a former director of DIMACS.

Biography

Roberts did his undergraduate studies at Dartmouth College, and received his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1968; his doctoral advisor was Dana Scott. After holding positions at the University of Pennsylvania, RAND, and the Institute for Advanced Study, he joined the Rutgers faculty in 1972. He has been vice president of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics twice, in 1984 and 1986, and has been director of DIMACS since 1996.

A mathematician is someone who uses an extensive knowledge of mathematics in their work, typically to solve mathematical problems.
