Fred Rutley
Frederick Joseph Rutley (10 July 1902 – 28 May 1947) was an Australian rules footballer who played for North Melbourne in both the Victorian Football Association (VFA) (1922-1924) and the Victorian Football League (VFL) (1925, 1930). Family The son of Frederick Rowell Rutley (1870-1907), and Sarah Cecilia Rutley (1870-1928), née Kennedy, he was born on 10 July 1902. He married Mary Ellen Johnson (1901-1957) in 1930. North Melbourne is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, north-west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Melbourne local government area. North Melbourne recorded a population of 14,953 at the 2021 census. Walter Baldwin Spencer
Sir Walter Baldwin Spencer (23 June 1860 – 14 July 1929), commonly referred to as Baldwin Spencer, was a British-Australian evolutionary biologist, anthropologist and ethnologist. He is known for his fieldwork with Aboriginal peoples in Central Australia, contributions to the study of ethnography, and academic collaborations with Frank Gillen. Spencer introduced the study of zoology at the University of Melbourne and held the title of Emeritus Professor until his death in 1929. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1900 and knighted in 1916. Alex Lang (12 March 1888 – 9 July 1943) was an Australian rules footballer who played with the Carlton Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Despite being a three-time premiership player, Lang will be remembered by history as the joint record holder for the longest player ban received from the tribunal. Football Recruited by coach Jack Worrall in 1905, Lang debuted for Carlton in the opening round of the following season. He played as a rover, winning premierships in his first three years at the club and in 1909 was voted by ''The Australasian'' newspaper as the most 'Outstanding player in the VFL'. During the 1910 final series, Lang became involved in a match-fixing scandal after being dropped from the side for the Second Semi-Final, against South Melbourne. Doug Fraser (Australian Footballer)
Douglas Stewart Fraser (7 December 1886 – 24 February 1919) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A Yarraville Football Club premiership player in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), Fraser broke into a strong Carlton team in the 1910 VFL season and established a place in the side as a follower. He kicked three goals in a win over Geelong at Princes Park. Fraser is best remembered for his involvement in the bribery scandal that hit the league during the 1910 finals series. Together with Doug Gillespie and his childhood friend Alex Lang, Fraser was withdrawn from the Semi Final against South Melbourne while Carlton and the league investigated allegations that they had accepted bribes to 'play dead'. Lang and Fraser were both found guilty and suspended for five years, a total of 99 league games.
