Frederick A. Rose (died July 1873) was a British naval surgeon who was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 1858 for aiding American naval personnel aboard the who had contracted yellow fever. When the ''Susquehanna'' arrived at Port Royal, Jamaica stricken by an epidemic of yellow fever, the British Royal Navy, under the command of Admiral Sir Houston Stewart placed the naval hospital there at their disposal, and eighty-five of the crew were taken ashore by the boats of the British squadron. Surgeon's mate, Assistant-Surgeon Frederick A. Rose volunteered to join the ''Susquehanna'', at some personal risk to himself (as it was not proved, by Walter Reed, that the virus was transmitted by mosquitoes rather than direct human contact until 1900) and took the care of the sick remaining on board on the voyage from Jamaica to New York City. Frederick Campbell Rose
Frederick Campbell Rose CSI (1865 – 18 July 1946) was a Scottish civil engineer who spent most of his career in India. Rose was born in Elgin and educated at Trinity College, Glenalmond and the Royal Indian Engineering College. He joined the Indian Public Works Department in 1886 and was posted to the Irrigation Branch in the Punjab, where he spent most of his career, becoming a leading authority on irrigation. In 1916 he was appointed Secretary of the Public Works Department, which carried with it membership of the Viceroy's Legislative Council. He retired from Indian service in 1919 to take up the post of chief engineer of river improvements in the Chili Province of Northern China China, officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), is a country in East Asia. Knowles Fred Rose (August 24, 1898 – December 1, 1954) was an American musician, Hall of Fame songwriter, and music publishing executive. Biography Born in Evansville, Indiana, United States, Rose started playing piano and singing as a small boy. In his teens, he moved to Chicago, Illinois where he worked in bars busking for tips, and finally vaudeville. Eventually, he became successful as a songwriter, penning his first hit for entertainer Sophie Tucker. For a short time Rose lived in Nashville, Tennessee, but his radio show there did not last long and he headed to New York City's Tin Pan Alley in hopes of making a living as a songwriter. It was there that he began writing songs with Ray Whitley, an RKO B-Western film star and author of "Back in the Saddle Again", and this collaboration introduced Rose to the possibilities of country music. Fred Rose (politician)
Fred Rose (born Fishel Rosenberg; 7 December 1907 – 16 March 1983) was a Polish-Canadian politician and trade union organizer, best known for being the only member of the Canadian Parliament to ever be convicted of a charge related to spying for a foreign country. A member of the Communist Party of Canada and Labor-Progressive Party, he served as the MP for Cartier from 1943 to 1947. He was ousted from his seat after being found guilty of conspiring to steal weapons research for the Soviet Union. Shortly after his release from prison, Rose moved to Poland to start an import-export business. While there, his Canadian citizenship was revoked, which prevented him from returning to Canada. His appeal against the revoking of his citizenship ultimately failed, but in 1958, then Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Ellen Fairclough introduced the "Fred Rose amendment" to the Citizenship Act so that such a removal of Canadian citizenship could never happen again. Frederick John Rose (21 September 1831 – 1 December 1920) was the Headmaster-Superintendent of Victorian School for Deaf Children (formerly the Victorian Deaf and Dumb Institution) from 1860 to 1891. Biography Born in England in 1831, Rose was profoundly deaf. He travelled to Victoria, Australia, with his brother during the 1850s gold rush, but after no initial success, the brothers worked in construction. After reading a letter written by the widowed mother of a deaf child that published in Melbourne's '' The Argus'' in 1859, Rose took an interest in educational services for disabled children in the colony. At the time, children requiring specialist education were expected to travel to England. In 1860, Rose began teaching pupils in a small house in Windsor, a suburb of Melbourne, however the number of students continued to grow, causing the location to change several times.
