Frederick Courtenay Morgan
Colonel Frederick Courtenay Morgan (24 May 1834 – 8 January 1909) was a Welsh Army officer and Conservative politician. Biography Morgan was the son of Charles Morgan, 1st Baron Tredegar, 3rd Bt., by his wife Rosamund Mundy. Morgan was commissioned into the Rifle Brigade in 1853 and fought in the Crimean War. He was promoted lieutenant in 1854 and captain in 1855. In 1860 he left the Regular Army and joined the 2nd Monmouthshire (1st Newport) Rifle Volunteers, becoming lieutenant-colonel commanding the 1st Administrative Battalion of the Monmouthshire Rifle Volunteers later the same year. He resigned his commission in 1873. He later commanded the 2nd Volunteer Battalion of the South Wales Borderers and was promoted colonel. Morgan was elected Member of Parliament for Monmouthshire in the 1874 general election and held it until the reorganisation under the Redistribution of Seats Act 1885. Frederick Augustus Morgan
Frederick Augustus Morgan (20 June 1837 – 8 November 1894) was an Australian publican and mining investor, co-discoverer of the Mount Morgan Mine. Early life Morgan was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, spent his boyhood in Bathurst, New South Wales, and commenced life as a digger by joining with his uncle, John Woodward, who made the discovery which led to the Ophir, New South Wales rush, in 1851. After working with success there and at Golden Point, Victoria and Golden Valley, he migrated to Warwick, Queensland, in 1866, and engaged in mining at Thanes' Creek, and tinning at Stanthorpe, and was successful. Career around Rockhampton Morgan reached Rockhampton, Queensland, in December 1879, and, after some prospecting, opened the Gallawa reef, near Mount Wheeler, and worked it for some years. Frederick Morgan (1847 – 3 April 1927) was an English painter of portraits, animals, domestic and country scenes. He became known for his idyllic genre scenes of childhood. Biography Morgan was born in London to John Morgan and his wife, Henrietta Hester Clare. His father was a successful genre artist sometimes known as 'Jury Morgan' (after one of his paintings ''The Gentlemen of the Jury''). At the age of 14, he was taken out of school by his father who then tutored him in art. At the age of 16, while still studying with his father, his first picture, ''The Rehearsal'', was exhibited at the Royal Academy, and, after a hiatus of several years, his paintings were shown there regularly. For a while he worked as a portrait artist for an Aylesbury photographer; this training proved to be crucial as it "taught him how to observe closely and to give the greatest attention to detail." Frederick G. Morgan (8 April 1940 - 16 April 1999) was an Australian recorder maker. Life and career Morgan first played recorder at age 12 in the family's home in Mentone, Victoria, Australia. After studying commercial art at Melbourne Technical College in 1959, he went to work at the Pan Recorder factory where he became enamored with the recorder. The Frederick Morgan Recorder Consort performed between 1964 and 1969, often accompanied on keyboard by his first wife, Jan. He appeared in the Melbourne Bach Festival, with the Tudor Choristers and the Melbourne Chorale. With Carl Dolmetsch and the Paul McDermott String Quartet, he performed Bach's Fourth Brandenburg Concerto in 1966 at Wilson Hall, Melbourne University. He continued to perform into 1970s with his second wife Ann Murphy, a harpsichordist. He won a Churchill Fellowship to study Recorder Manufacture and Usage in Europe in 1970. Frederick Cleveland Morgan D.C.L. LL. D (also known as F. C. Morgan, F. Cleveland Morgan and informally as Cleve Morgan) (1 December 1881 – 3 October 1962) was a Canadian department store heir, art collector, museum manager, and philanthropist. Career F. Cleveland Morgan was the great nephew of Henry Morgan, founder of Morgan’s Department stores, which were sold to the Hudson's Bay Company in the early sixties. At age 18, he entered Trinity College, Cambridge. He received an M.A. degree in zoology from McGill University in 1904 and then entered the family business Henry Morgan and Company till 1952 when he retired. There, as Vice-President, he was responsible for display, special events and the art and antique departments. Persistent eye problems (he had lost an eye in an accident when he was seven) led to his dedicating his life to building the decorative arts collection that defines the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
