Fred M. Guirey
Fred Melville Guirey (1908-1984) was an architect working in Phoenix Arizona from the 1930s to the 1980s. Over his career his firm produced many works some of which are considered exceptional examples of Mid-Century Modern, and Brutalist architecture. Life He was born on December 6, 1908 in Oakland, CA, he graduated UC Berkeley with a degree in architecture in 1933. After his graduation he worked for the Arizona highway department as a landscape architect. In 1939 he married Catherine Bolen. that same year they began building their home in Phoenix. In 1946 he began his profession as a Phoenix architect with a partnership with Stan Quist as the firm Guirey & Quist. Stan Quist died in 1947 and Guirey subsequently entered a partnership with Hugh Jones as the firm Guirey & Jones. The two were associated until 1950 at which time Guirey began to practice on his own. Coconino High School (CHS) is a public secondary school located in Flagstaff, Arizona (US). It is part of the Flagstaff Unified School District and is one of the district's three high schools. Located at 2801 North Izabel Street, Coconino High School serves students in grades nine through twelve and currently enrolls 1,446 students as of 2012. The school's mascot is the panther. Park Central Mall
Park Central Mall was the first shopping mall in Phoenix, Arizona. It is located in Encanto Village, on Central Avenue and Osborn Road. Today it exists as a mixed-use, business park primarily occupied by regional administrative offices for non-profit hospital operator Dignity Health (formerly known as Catholic Healthcare West), and regional offices for UnitedHealth Group. The property currently is known simply as Park Central. History Park Central Shopping City, as it originally was known, was first envisioned by Ralph Burgbacher and his older brother, A.J. Burgbacher. The two men purchased the Central Avenue Dairy in the 1950s. At the time Phoenix was a much smaller city, and the mall's location, north of the state capitol was an early edge city, which in time came to be known as "Uptown" Phoenix. Packard Stadium was a college baseball park in the southwestern United States, located in Tempe, Arizona, a suburb just east of Phoenix. It was the home field of the Arizona State Sun Devils of the Pac-12 Conference from 1974 to 2014. Opened in 1974, it was named for William Guthrie Packard, longtime president of Shepard's Citations, made possible by a gift from his children, Guthrie and Peter, who were ASU alumni. Welton Becket
Welton David Becket (August 8, 1902 – January 16, 1969) was an American modern architect who designed many buildings in Los Angeles, California. Biography Becket was born in Seattle, Washington and graduated from the University of Washington program in Architecture in 1927 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree (B.Arch.). He moved to Los Angeles in 1933 and formed a partnership with his University of Washington classmate Walter Wurdeman and Angelean architect Charles F. Plummer. Their first major commission was the Pan-Pacific Auditorium in 1935, which won them residential jobs from James Cagney, Robert Montgomery, and other film celebrities. Plummer died in 1939. The successor firm Wurdeman and Becket went on to design Bullock's Pasadena (1944) and a couple of corporate headquarters. Chase Tower (Phoenix)
The Chase Tower (formerly known as Valley Center and Bank One Center) in Phoenix, Arizona, is the tallest building in the state of Arizona. Built in 1972, it is 483 feet (147 m) tall. It was originally built for local financial heavyweight Valley National Bank, with which Bank One merged in 1993. Bank One merged with Chase in 2005, and the building was renamed in December 2005. It is 40 stories tall, but the highest occupiable floor is the 38th. At one time there was a public observation area on the 39th floor in the Chase Tower, but it was closed during redevelopment and construction on the upper floors. The tower takes up an entire city block. The footprint is similar to a 3 leaf clover and its stem. The stem is the narrow elevator core on the southern facade. Lowell Observatory
Lowell Observatory is an astronomical observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona, United States. Lowell Observatory was established in 1894, placing it among the oldest observatories in the United States, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965. and In 2011, the Observatory was named one of "The World's 100 Most Important Places" by Time Magazine. It was at the Lowell Observatory that the dwarf planet Pluto was discovered in 1930 by Clyde Tombaugh.
