Fred Green (Australian Politician)
Frederick Green (12 November 1900 – 15 September 1983) was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1950 until 1968. He was a member of the Labor Party (ALP). Green was born in Sydney and educated to elementary level at state schools. He was the son of a metal dealer and worked variously as a brick carter, concrete labourer and law clerk. He joined the Labor party in 1927 and was an alderman on the Alexandria Municipal Council between 1934 and 1948. He was the mayor in 1937, 1938 and 1945. Green was elected to the New South Wales Parliament as the Labor member for the seat of Redfern at the 1950 state election after the sitting Labor member Kevin Dwyer lost party pre-selection and retired. He retained the seat for the Labor Party at the next 5 elections and retired at the 1968 election when the seat was abolished. Green was the Labor Party whip between 1953 and 1959. Fred Green (baseball)
Fred Allen Green (September 14, 1933 – December 22, 1996) was an American professional baseball player. The left-handed pitcher appeared in 88 games in Major League Baseball, all but one in relief, over all or parts of five seasons (1959–62; 1964) for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Senators. A native and longtime resident of the Titusville section of Hopewell Township, Mercer County, New Jersey, he was listed as tall and . His son Gary was a shortstop for three MLB teams between 1986 and 1992, and is a former longtime minor league manager. Fred Green signed with the Pirates in 1952 and advanced through their farm system, missing 1957 to perform military service in the United States Army. After beginning for the Pirate varsity, then making one appearance in July, Pittsburgh called him up from Triple-A Columbus in August 1959 for an extended stay in the majors. Fred Green (footballer)
Frederick John Green (6 March 1921 – 7 January 1983) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon and St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Football Although he was not as tall as other ruckmen, Green was an effective knock ruckman during his career and also spent some time as a defender. He played in Essendon's losing 1941 Grand Final team and left the club in 1944 due to Naval commitments. Stationed in Canberra, Green captained the Navy side which competed in the CANFL and led them to the 1944 premiership. He continued playing in 1945 and won a Mulrooney Medal as the league's 'Best and fairest' player. Green returned to Essendon in 1946 before crossing to St Kilda the following season. He celebrated his 100th VFL game with a five-point win over Fitzroy in 1950. Green captained St Kilda from 1949 to 1950 and was their playing coach in 1951. Fred Pratt Green
The Reverend Fred Pratt Green MBE (2 September 1903 – 22 October 2000) was a British Methodist minister and hymnodist. Born in Roby, Lancashire, England, he began his ministry in the Filey circuit. He was ordained as a Methodist minister in 1928 and served circuits in the north and south of England until 1969. During his career as a minister he wrote numerous plays and hymns. It was not until he retired, however, that he began writing prolifically. His hymns reflect his rejection of fundamentalism and show his concern with social issues. They include many that were written to supply obvious liturgical needs of the modern church, speaking to topics or appropriate for events for which there were few traditional hymns available. Green also wrote poetry: his poem ''The Old Couple'' was included by Philip Larkin in 'The Oxford Book of Twentieth-Century English Verse' (1973). He died on 22 October 2000.
