Fred B. Schneider
Fred Barry Schneider (born December 7, 1953) is an American computer scientist, based at Cornell University, where he is the Samuel B. Eckert Professor of Computer Science. He has published in numerous areas including science policy, cybersecurity, and distributed systems. His research is in the area of concurrent and distributed systems for high-integrity and mission-critical applications. Schneider received a B.Sc. degree in Engineering from Cornell University in 1975 followed by a Ph.D. from Stony Brook University where he was a student of Arthur J. Bernstein. In Fall 1978, he joined the faculty at Cornell University. He has been editor-in-chief of ''Distributed Computing'' and associate editor-in-chief of ''IEEE Security and Privacy''. David Gries
David Gries (born April 26, 1939 in Flushing, Queens, New York) is an American computer scientist at Cornell University, United States mainly known for his books ''The Science of Programming'' (1981) and ''A Logical Approach to Discrete Math'' (1993, with Fred B. Schneider). He was Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs in the Cornell University College of Engineering from 2003–2011. His research interests include programming methodology and related areas such as programming languages, related semantics, and logic. His son, Paul Gries, has been a co-author of an introductory textbook to computer programming using the language Python and is a professor teaching Stream in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto. Dijkstra Prize
The Edsger W. Dijkstra Paper Prize in Distributed Computing is given for outstanding papers on the principles of distributed computing, whose significance and impact on the theory and/or practice of distributed computing has been evident for at least a decade. The paper prize has been presented annually since 2000. Originally the paper prize was presented at the ACM Symposium on Principles of Distributed Computing (PODC), and it was known as the PODC Influential-Paper Award. It was renamed in honor of Edsger W.
