Franquemont
Franquemont is an ancient lordship on the banks of the river Doubs (river), Doubs dominated by the castle of Franquemont. It comprised the river banks from le Theusseret to Le Moulin du Plain, the valley, hamlets, mills and villages of Gourgouton, Montbaron, Vautenaivre, Beaujour and Goumois. In 1247, Thierry III, Count of County of Montbéliard, Montbéliard, acquired the village of Goumois and several other properties on the river banks. In 1304 his successors passed it, along with its dependencies to Gauthier of Montfaucon, first Lord of Franquemont. Gauthier erected a castle on the remains of an ancient Roman fortress, on the edge which separates the hamlet of Belfond and the river Doubs. After his death, the Lordship and castle remained once again in the hands of the Counts of Montbéliard. Frederic Von Franquemont
Friedrich von Franquemont (5 March 1770, in Ludwigsburg – 2 January 1842) was a Württemberg Infantry General under Napoleon during the Napoleonic Wars and later Württemberg State and Secretary of War. Life Franquemont was the son of an illegitimate union of Charles Eugene, Duke of Württemberg (1728-1793) and the dancer Regina Monti. He was already on 5 July 1775, at the age of five years, a pupil in the High School Karl added. In 1787, he left school as a second lieutenant and went to the Württemberg Cape Regiment, which served for the Dutch East India Company. He served first in South Africa, then in Batavia, and Trincomalee in Ceylon, where in 1795, he was captured by the British. Held in Madras, he came to England and was released in 1800. Then, he joined the Württemberg service. First, he became captain and then rose in rapid succession, so in 1807, he was colonel of the 1st Battalion of the Kronprinz Regiment.
