Franklin R. Collbohm
Franklin Rudolf Collbohm (January 31, 1907 – February 12, 1990) was an American aviation engineer. Biography He was born on January 31, 1907, in New York City. He died on February 12, 1990. Education He studied engineering at the University of Wisconsin. Personal life He was married to Katherine Collbohm and had three children. Career He started his career as a test pilot for Douglas Aircraft. He is most notable for being the founder of the RAND Corporation. He has also collaborated with Paul Baran for the development of networking infrastructure. Awards He has received the Defense Department's Distinguished Public Service Medal and also the U.S. Air Force’s Exceptional Service Award. Paul Baran
Paul Baran (born Pesach Baran ; April 29, 1926 – March 26, 2011) was a Polish-American engineer who was a pioneer in the development of computer networks. He was one of the two independent inventors of packet switching, which is today the dominant basis for data communications in computer networks worldwide, and went on to start several companies and develop other technologies that are an essential part of modern digital communication. Early life He was born in Grodno (then Second Polish Republic, since 1945 part of Belarus) on April 29, 1926. He was the youngest of three children in his Lithuanian Jewish family, with the Yiddish given name "Pesach".
