Franklin, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin
Franklin is a city in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. It is a suburb of Milwaukee with a population of 36,816 as of the 2020 census. History On December 20, 1839, the south portion of the Town of Kinnikinick was split off to form the town of Franklin. The town consisted of a 36-square-mile area that was originally covered with heavy timber, which was mostly hardwoods such as hickory, walnut, and butternut. Most of the town's drainage was delivered by the Root River and there was an abundance of wildlife including bears, deer, and wolves. As of the 1840 census, the population of the Town of Franklin was 248. The name "Franklin" was given in homage to Benjamin Franklin. By the 1950s, Franklin was known as a "City of Homes" for its growing residential areas, which served as a suburb of the city of Milwaukee. Evan Jacob Kruczynski (born March 31, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Lake Country DockHounds of the American Association of Professional Baseball. Amateur career Kruczynski attended Franklin High School in Franklin, Wisconsin. He helped Franklin win baseball state championships as a freshman in 2010 and a sophomore in 2011. As a junior in 2012, he was 4–4 with a 1.97 ERA, striking out 73 batters in innings pitched. Undrafted out of high school, he enrolled at East Carolina University where he played college baseball for the East Carolina Pirates. Kruczynski made only three appearances as a freshman in 2014, but in 2015, as a sophomore, led the team with 16 starts in which he posted an 8–4 record with a 3.17 ERA. As a junior in 2016, he pitched to an 8–1 record with a 2.01 ERA in 17 starts. Sean McGuire (born February 14, 1996) is a retired American professional gridiron football quarterback for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League (CFL). The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) is the regulatory body for all high school sports in Wisconsin. Its history dates to 1895, making it the earliest continually existing high school athletic organization in the country. It also provides the licensing program for more than 10,000 officials in the state, and oversees junior high or middle school athletics in about 100 of the state's nearly 400 school districts. FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is an international high school robotics competition. Each year, teams of high school students, coaches, and mentors work during a six-week period to build robots capable of competing in that year's game that weigh up to . Robots complete tasks such as scoring balls into goals, placing inner tubes onto racks, hanging on bars, and balancing robots on balance beams.
