To the north across the Canada–United States border are the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario, from east to west. As of the 2020 census, the county population was 47,555. Its county seat is Malone. The county is named in honor of United States Founding Father Benjamin Franklin. Franklin County comprises the Malone, NY Micropolitan Statistical Area. Much of Franklin County is within Adirondack Park. Within the border of the county is the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation, or ''Akwesasne'' in the Mohawk language. 	Franklin, Franklin County, New York Franklin is a town located in Franklin County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the town had a population of 1,140. The town is in the southeastern part of the county, in the Adirondack Region of New York. History The first settlement in the town was Franklin Falls (1827). This community burned in 1852. The town of Franklin was founded in 1836 from part of the town of Bellmont. The town was used to relocate former slaves, in part the work of Gerrit Smith, an abolitionist, and in part the result of Civil War veterans inviting freed slaves to return home with them. The Loon Lake Mountain Fire Observation Station was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. Geography Franklin is the third-largest town in Franklin County. 	Franklin, Delaware County, New York Franklin is a town in Delaware County, New York, United States. The population was 2,411 at the 2010 census. The town contains a village also named Franklin. The village is the population center. The town is on the county's northern border. History Little is known of the area prior to the American Revolution. Areas along the waterways were occupied by bands of Lenape (Delaware) people primarily, with remnants of other tribes who had been pushed west across the Hudson by English colonial development. Hunters and fur trappers also visited the area. After the war, speculators, often based in New York City, bought various land patents sight unseen, as they were lured by dreams of profit-taking as land was resold to settlers. Hundreds of settlers had moved into the town of Harpersfield in what is now Delaware County. 	Franklin (village), New York Franklin is a village in Delaware County of the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2010 census, the village population was 374. The village is in the town of Franklin. The area was not settled by European Americans until after the Revolutionary War, when pioneers came from New England, downstate, and as new immigrants. The area was mostly rural, and population declined in the late 20th century due to urbanization elsewhere. Retirees and people with second homes have also appreciated Franklin. The Franklin Village Historic District and New Stone Hall are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
