Frankie Ortega
Frankie Ortega (November 27, 1927 – February 7, 1994) was an American jazz piano player and bandleader with the Frankie Ortega Trio during the 1950s and 1960s. Biography He was born on November 27, 1927 in Alhambra, California, United States. Ortega released ''Swingin' Abroad'' on Jubilee Records in 1958 and he composed the theme music for the TV series '' King of Diamonds'' in 1961. He may be best remembered for the trio's frequent appearances as the house band at Dino's Lodge on ''77 Sunset Strip''. Alhambra (, , ; from "Alhambra") is a city located in the western San Gabriel Valley region of Los Angeles County, California, United States, approximately eight miles from the Downtown Los Angeles civic center. Jubilee Records was an American independent record label, specializing in rhythm and blues and novelty records. It was founded in New York City in 1946 by Herb Abramson. His partner was Jerry Blaine. Blaine bought Abramson's half of the company in 1947, when Abramson went on to co-found Atlantic Records with Ahmet Ertegun. The company name was Jay-Gee Recording Company, a subsidiary of the Cosnat Corporation. Cosnat was a wholesale record distributor. History Jubilee was the first independent record label to reach the white market with a black vocal group, when the Orioles' recording of "Crying in the Chapel" reached the Top Twenty on the Pop chart in 1953. Carl Frederick Tandberg (March 22, 1910 – August 26, 1988), was a bassist who recorded with Glen Campbell and Frankie Ortega. Biography He was born on March 22, 1910, in Dorchester, Boston where his father, Thorvald Martin Tandberg I (1874–1970), managed a restaurant. Thorvald was born in Portland, Maine. Carl's mother was Alvilde Marie Naess (1875–1933) of Oslo, Norway. His maternal uncle was Alfred Næss, the Norwegian speedskater. His music career began in Boston in 1926 where he played in local ballrooms, restaurants and in radio stations WNAC and WEEI. Carl married Alice Nazian Gonyer (1909–1992) of Orono, Maine in 1929. They moved to Queens, New York where he played with the Jimmy Durante band, played vaudeville and toured the southern circuit with Al Wohlman & Company.
