Frances "Frankie" Mann (June 13, 1892 – June 23, 1969) was an American actress, who appeared in over forty silent films between 1913 and 1925. Early life Frances Hampton Mann was born in Mill Hall, Pennsylvania, and raised in Massachusetts, the daughter of Robert Mann Jr. and Alice Eloise Mann. Her grandfather, Robert Mann Sr., founded an axe company, the Mann Edge Tool Company. Her father, a financier, lost his fortune in the economic Panic of 1907, and died in 1910. Her younger sister Alice Mann was also an actress. Career Mann was an actress and appeared in over forty silent films made between 1913 and 1925, with various studios. She was often cast as a "vamp", or temptress character. "Time after time she turned to the camera to register a vampire's sneery smile, and believe me this was awful," reported one reviewer in 1916. Donald Hall (1867–1948) was a British-American film actor of the silent era.Goble p.109 He was married to the actress Frankie Mann and was brother-in-law to Alice Mann. He appeared in a number of Vitagraph Studios films during the 1910s. He also appeared in films produced by Triangle, Goldwyn, Selznick and Paramount Pictures. Following the introduction of sound he made only a few uncredited appearances. ''Barriers Burned Away'' is a 1925 American silent historical drama film directed by W.S. Van Dyke and starring Mabel Ballin, Eric Mayne, and Frank Mayo. It is set at the time of the Great Chicago Fire in 1871. The film is loosely adapted from the 1872 novel of the same name by Edward Payson Roe. Plot As described in a review in a film magazine, Wayne Morgan (Mayo), an artist, learns from his mother that a valuable painting has been stolen. In order to track it down, he takes a job as a porter in the Randolph Art Shop. He eventually discovers the picture has been copied and denounces the copy as lacking inspiration, claiming the original.
