Frankfort (village), New York
Frankfort is a village in the town of Frankfort, Herkimer County, New York, United States. The population was 2,598 at the 2010 census, out of 7,636 people in the entire town. Like the town, the village is named after an early settler, Lawrence (Lewis) Frank. Frankfort is on the south side of the Erie Canal and east of Utica, New York. History The village site was settled prior to 1807. The village was incorporated in 1863. The Frankfort Town Hall and United States Post Office are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Geography Frankfort village is located in the northeastern part of the town of Frankfort at (43.037267, -75.071879). Ilion, New York
Ilion is a village in Herkimer County, New York, United States. The population was 7,790 at the 2017 census. The village is at the northern edge of the town of German Flatts, though a tiny portion is in the town of Frankfort. It is south of the Mohawk River and Erie Canal. History "Ilion" is a name for the ancient city of Troy. The area where Ilion is located was first settled by Palatine Germans under the Burnetsfield Patent around 1725. Settlers first took plots along Steele Creek, which flows into the Mohawk River. Gradually they built many mills along the creek. New York State Route 5S (NY 5S) is a east–west state highway located in the Mohawk Valley of New York in the United States. It extends from a continuation of NY 5A at an interchange with NY 5, NY 8, NY 12, and Interstate 790 (I-790) in Utica to an interchange with NY 890 in Rotterdam. The route runs along the south side of the Mohawk River for its entire length and parallels NY 5, which runs along the north side of the Mohawk River (hence the "S" in the route number of NY 5S).
