Frankford, Tasmania
Frankford is a locality and small rural community in the local government areas of Latrobe (in the north), West Tamar (in the east), and Meander Valley (in the west), in the North West region of Tasmania. It is located about north-west of the town of Launceston. The 2016 census determined a population of 176 for the state suburb of Frankford. History The name first appeared on a map in 1883. The locality was gazetted in 1966. Geography The locality consists of a valley with higher ground on either side, but does not contain a major stream. Most of it is drained by the Franklin Rivulet, which runs to the north-west and discharges into the Rubicon Estuary. 2016 Australian Census
The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as – an increase of 8.8 per cent or people over the . Norfolk Island joined the census for the first time in 2016, adding 1,748 to the population. The ABS annual report revealed that $24 million in additional expenses accrued due to the outage on the census website. Results from the 2016 census were available to the public on 11 April 2017, from the Australian Bureau of Statistics website, two months earlier than for any previous census. The Tamar River, officially kanamaluka / River Tamar, is a estuary located in northern Tasmania, Australia. Despite being called a river, the waterway is a brackish and tidal estuary over its entire length. Location and features Formed by the confluence of the North Esk and South Esk rivers at , kanamaluka / River Tamar flows generally north towards its mouth at Low Head, north of the settlement George Town and into the Bass Strait via Port Dalrymple. kanamaluka / River Tamar has several minor tributaries including the Supply River. Supply River
The Supply River is a perennial river located in the northern region of Tasmania, Australia. Location and features The river rises below Kellys Lookout within the Mount Careless Forest Reserve, southwest of and west of . The river flows generally east-northeast, joined by two minor tributaries before reaching its confluence with the Tamar River at Robigana. From this point, the river enters Bass Strait. The river descends over its course. The river is transversed by the West Tamar Highway. The river draws its name from the supply of fresh water at a waterfall just from the river mouth, discovered in 1804 when the ''Lady Nelson'' sailed up the Tamar River. A water mill was built , approximately north of Launceston, upstream of the junction of the Tamar and Supply rivers. A walking trail leads from the river mouth to the water mill. Meander River (Tasmania)
The Meander River is a major perennial river located in the central northern region of Tasmania, Australia. Until the founding of Westbury in the early 1820s the river was known as The Western River. Location and features The Meander River rises in the Great Western Tiers and flows past its namesake town, Meander, through the major regional town of Deloraine, then eastward, where it flows into the South Esk River near Hadspen. From source to mouth, the river is joined by fourteen tributaries including the Liffey River and descends over its course. The damming of the river in 2007 created the artificial reservoir Lake Huntsman. The Meander Hydro Dam provides both electricity and water to the region, and is the second dam on the Meander River. The Rubicon Estuary is an estuary on the central coast of northern Tasmania, south-eastern Australia, lying next to the town of Port Sorell. Description The estuary has a shallow muddy substrate and is fed by several streams, including the Franklin Rivulet and Rubicon River.
