Frank Stout (rugby Union)
Frank Moxon Stout MC (21 February 1877 – 30 May 1926) also referred to as Frank Moxham Stout, was an English international rugby union forward who played club rugby for Gloucester and Richmond. Stout played international rugby for England and was selected for the British Isles on two tours in 1899 and 1903. On the 1899 tour of Australia, he acted as on field captain for three of the Tests. Stout came from a notable sporting family, his father William Stout, was a Diamond Sculls winner, while his brother, Percy also played international rugby for England. Rugby career Stout first came to note as a rugby player when he joined Gloucester and became the club's first player to represent an international team while on the book. Gloucester
Gloucester ( ) is a cathedral city and the county town of Gloucestershire in the South West of England. Gloucester lies on the River Severn, between the Cotswolds to the east and the Forest of Dean to the west, east of Monmouth and east of the border with Wales. The Scotland national rugby union team represents Scotland in men's international rugby union and is administered by the Scottish Rugby Union. The team takes part in the annual Six Nations Championship and participates in the Rugby World Cup, which takes place every four years. John Daniell (cricketer)
John Daniell, (12 December 1878 – 24 January 1963) was an international rugby union player for England and a first-class cricketer for Somerset and Cambridge University Cricket Club. Daniell achieved international success at rugby and was an international selector and a prominent administrator in the game for many years. He was president of the Rugby Football Union for two seasons from 1945 to 1947. His longer playing career was as a cricketer: he was captain of Somerset for 13 of the 15 seasons in which first-class cricket was played between 1908 and 1926, acted as occasional secretary and general organiser for the county over many other years, and was a national selector for the England cricket team. South Africa National Rugby Union Team
The South Africa national rugby union team, commonly known as the Springboks (colloquially the Boks, Bokke or Amabokoboko), is the country's national team governed by the South African Rugby Union. Matthew Mullineux
Matthew Mullineux MC (8 August 1867 – 13 February 1945) was an English rugby union scrum-half who, although not capped for England, was selected for two British Lions tours. He gained one cap during the 1896 tour to South Africa and captained the 1899 tour of Australia. An Anglican minister, he later became a chaplain in the British Army, and was awarded the Military Cross for his actions during the First World War. Early life Mullineux was born in Barton-upon-Irwell, Eccles, Lancashire, though some sources record his birthplace as nearby Worsley, to Matthew Mullineux, an insurance-inspector, and his wife, Elizabeth (Derbyshire) Mullineux. The Australia national rugby union team, nicknamed the Wallabies, is the representative national team in the sport of rugby union for the nation of Australia. The team first played at Sydney in 1899, winning their first test match against the touring British Isles team. 1899 Home Nations Championship
The 1899 Home Nations Championship was the seventeenth series of the rugby union Home Nations Championship. Six matches were played between 5 January and 18 March. It was contested by England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The 1899 Championship was won by Ireland who also took the Triple Crown. This was the fourth time Ireland had won the tournament and the second occasion they had achieved the Triple Crown, but would be Ireland's last success for some time; they would not win the title outright again until 1935 and their next Triple Crown came in 1948. The Irish success was down to an extremely strong defence with the Irish team conceding just a single penalty in the match against Scotland. Tony Underwood
Tony Underwood (born 17 February 1969 in Ipoh, Malaysia) is a former English rugby union footballer who played as a wing three-quarter back. He is of Malaysian-English parentage. Rugby career His rugby talent was first nurtured at Barnard Castle School. Following his elder brother Rory, he played for Leicester Tigers and England. Tony had another brother called Gary, who played at under-21 level for England. He made his England debut in October 1992 against Canada, and went on to win a total of 27 English caps. Rory Underwood
Rory Underwood, (born 19 June 1963) is an English former rugby union player, he is 's record international try scorer with 49 tries in 85 internationals between 1984 and 1996. Underwood's principal position was wing and he played 236 games for Leicester Tigers between 1983 and 1997, he also played for Middlesbrough, Bedford Blues and the Royal Air Force. Underwood toured with the British and Irish Lions in 1989 and 1993 playing in six tests and scoring one try. In 1992 Underwood played for England alongside his younger brother Tony Underwood, becoming the first brothers to play together for England since 1937.
