Francis Joseph "Frank" Ryan (1899–December 30, 1961) was an American public relations executive and sports announcer who was the first play-by-play announcer for the Boston Bruins and publicity director for the Bruins, Harvard University, and Suffolk Downs. Early life and education Ryan was born in Boston in 1899. He attended Boston Latin School, where he was a member of the school's crew and hockey team and was captain of the football team. He graduated in 1917. During World War I, Ryan served as an officer in the United States Army Reserve. Ryan attended Boston College, but transferred to Harvard University, where he graduated with the class of 1924. From 1919 to 1929, Ryan was a sports reporter for the Boston Traveler. Frank Ryan (5 October 1900 – 17 July 1965) was an Irish tenor. Biography Ryan was born in Fermoy, County Cork, Ireland in October 1900. His family moved to Tallow, County Waterford, when Frank was six years old, and his parents began a victualing business. His voice developed late, and after it was discovered in his mid-20s that he was a tenor, he won the Tenor Solo award at the Dublin Feis Ceoil in 1931 and the Feis Matthew on four occasions. He joined the Fermoy Choral Society in 1935 and took leading roles in '' The Gondoliers'', '' Pirates of Penzance'', ''The Geisha'', '' The Yeomen of the Guard'', ''H.M.S. Pinafore'', '' The Mikado'', and in later years, '' Lilac Time.'' Frank Ryan ( ga, Proinsias Ó Riain; 11 September 1902 – 10 June 1944) was an Irish politician, journalist, intelligence agent and paramilitary activist. He first came to prominence as an Irish republican activist at University College Dublin and fought for the Irish Republican Army during the Irish Civil War. Ryan fell under the influence of Peadar O'Donnell, an advocate of socialism within Irish republicanism, which resulted in him breaking with the IRA and becoming involved with founding a new political organisation, the Republican Congress, and editing its associated newspaper: ''An Phoblacht''. Ryan participated in the Spanish Civil War on the Popular Front side, fighting for the Comintern-organised International Brigades (retroactively known as the Connolly Column). Mount Albert is an inner suburb of Auckland, New Zealand, which is centred on Ōwairaka / Mount Albert, a local volcanic peak which dominates the landscape. In the past Mt Albert also referred to the 2,500 acre borough that was created in 1911 on the outskirts of Auckland City. Frank Beall Ryan (born July 12, 1936) is a retired American football quarterback in the National Football League who played for the Los Angeles Rams (1958–1961), Cleveland Browns (1962–1968) and Washington Redskins (1969–1970). He led the Browns to their most recent National Football League title in 1964. Ryan was also a mathematician, serving as a faculty member at Case Western Reserve University from 1967 to 1974. Frank Peter "Dunie" Ryan Jr. (10 June 1942 – 13 November 1984) was a Canadian gangster and the leader of the West End Gang, a Montreal-based criminal organization. Criminal career Hoodlum Ryan was born of Irish Canadian, Irish descent in a poor neighborhood of Montreal. His father, Frank Ryan Sr. abandoned their family when Ryan was three years old, leaving his mother, May, to raise him by herself. Ryan's mother called him "junior", which he mispronounced as "Dunie", which became his lifelong nickname. Ryan dropped out of school at the age of 16 and led his own teenage gang who participated in "petty" crimes such as smash and grabs, garment thefts from trucks, and breaking and entering. Ryan's specialty as a teenager was in stealing fur coats from delivery trucks and selling them on the black market. Francis J. “Hun” Ryan (January 10, 1908, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – October 14, 1977, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) was an American soccer midfielder. He earned three caps, scoring one goal, with the U.S. national team between 1928 and 1936. He was also a member of the U.S. teams at the 1928 Summer Olympics, 1936 Summer Olympics, and the 1934 FIFA World Cup. Ryan was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1958.
