Frank Portelli (artist)
Frank Portelli (1922-2004) was a mural artist and fine art painter from Malta whose work was exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 1958. Within a few months after his death, one of his murals was also acquired by Heritage Malta for the country's national art collection. Education Portelli started attending the School of Art in Valletta when he was 13 years old. There, along with fellow artist Antoine Camilleri, he studied under the Caruana Dingli brothers, Edward and Robert, and Karmenu Mangion. Heritage Malta
Heritage Malta ( mt, Patrimonju Malta) is the Maltese national agency for museums, conservation practice and cultural heritage. Created by the Cultural Heritage Act, enacted in 2002, the national agency replaced the former Museums Department. Originally Heritage Malta was entrusted with the management of museums, sites and their collections but in 2005, the agency was also charged with the take over of the former Malta Centre for Restoration to become the national agency responsible for conservation. Antoine Camilleri (artist)
Antoine Camilleri MQR, (5 February 1922 – 23 November 2005) was a Maltese artist and art teacher who made a lasting impact on the development of Maltese modern and contemporary art. He retains a special and unique place in Maltese Contemporary Art, mainly of a spirited father, loving teacher and as an artist who matured through the hardship of life. Camilleri's work is very personal, usually drawing from events or experiences in the artist's life. His self-image in particular is repeated throughout his work using various media including, oils, lino prints, clay and objet trouvé. Edward Caruana Dingli (artist)
Edward Caruana Dingli (10 August 1876 – 9 May 1950) was a Maltese painter. Biography Edward Caruana Dingli was born on 10 August 1876 in Valletta to Raphael Caruana Dingli and Martha née Garroni. He followed his father in embarking on a career in the civil service, where he was commissioned to the Royal Malta Regiment of Militia, and later he transferred to the Royal Malta Artillery. He left military service in 1913 and became a full-time artist at the age of 37. He married Charlotte Marietta Giovanna Falzon for thirteen years, with whom he had two children, when he was 24. Following his separation from Falzon in 1913, he had a reputedly scandalous relationship with Olga Galea Naudi née Barbora, a long time acquaintance of Caruana Dingli and wife of an ex-military man Carlo Galea Naudi.
