Frank Pennink
John Jacob Frank Pennink (1913–1983) was a British amateur golfer, sports journalist and golf course architect. Life John Jacob Frank Pennink was born in Delft, Netherlands in 1913. His father was keenly involved in sports, as was Frank. He went to Tonbridge School, Kent, an independent boys' school. He played in this school's cricket first eleven in a match against Clifton College at Lord's Cricket Ground. He attended Magdalen College, Oxford University, and played on the university golf team from 1933 to 1935. He was team captain in 1935. After graduating from university Pennink became an employee of an insurance company based in the City of London, but continued to play golf as an amateur. In 1937 he won the English Amateur, the Royal St George's Gold Vase and the South of England Amateur. That year the English Amateur was held at Saunton Golf Club. Donald Steel
Donald Maclennan Arklay Steel (born 23 August 1937 in Hillingdon, Middlesex) is a former golfer and is a noted golf course designer, as well as being a writer and journalist. Educated at Fettes College and Christ's College, Cambridge, he has designed a large number of golf courses or modifications to existing courses, mostly in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Several late 20th century and early 21st century golf course architects worked under Steel in their early careers, among them Martin Ebert, Jonathan Gaunt, Tom Mackenzie. Steel has also written a number of books about golf. He was golf correspondent for the ''Sunday Telegraph'' from its launch in 1961 until 1989, and has written for '' Country Life'' since 1983. Wiesmoor
Wiesmoor is a town in the district of Aurich in the northwest of Lower Saxony. It lies on the Nordgeorgsfehnkanal and is the youngest town in the East Frisia area having been bestowed town rights on the 16th of March 2006, two days later on the 18th of March 2006, Wiesmoor celebrated the Centenary of the settlements founding. The town owes its growth to the industrialisation of the harvesting of peat from the surrounding moors. Wiesmoor holds an annual flower festival and the town is also known as the ‘Flower City’, the name originates from the large numbers of flowers which are grown in the town’s industrial greenhouse. Aalden is a village in the Netherlands and it is part of the Coevorden municipality in Drenthe. History Aalden developed in the Middle Ages on higher sand ground. Robert Trent Jones
Robert Trent Jones Sr. (June 20, 1906 – June 14, 2000) was a British–American golf course architect who designed or re-designed more than 500 golf courses in 45 U.S. states and 35 countries. In reference to this, Jones took pride in saying, "The sun never sets on a Robert Trent Jones golf course." He is often confused with the famous amateur golfer Bobby Jones with whom he worked from time to time.
