Frank O'Rourke (writer)
Frank O'Rourke (October 16, 1916 – April 27, 1989) was an American writer known for western and mystery novels and sports fiction. O'Rourke wrote more than 60 novels and numerous magazine articles. Born in Denver, Colorado, he attended Kemper Military School. A very talented amateur baseball player, he considered trying out for a professional team, but was called up for service in World War II. By the end of the war he had decided to become a writer; his first novel was ''E Company'' (1945), based in part on his wartime experiences. O'Rourke dedicated the book to Max Brand, whom he knew before the war. In the book O'Rourke named a fictional war correspondent Max Hastings after him. Several of O'Rourke's novels were filmed; ''The Bravados'' (1958) was the first, and his novel '' A Mule for the Marquesa'' was made into a popular movie named ''The Professionals'' (1966). Frank O'Rourke (born 15 May 1967) is an Irish former Fianna Fáil politician who served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Kildare North constituency from 2016 to 2020. O'Rourke was born in Sligo in 1967. He is a native of County Leitrim, O'Rourke was first co-opted onto Kildare County Council in January 2011 to replace Paul Kelly. He retained his seat in the 2014 local elections, topping the poll in the Celbridge- Leixlip local electoral area, with 1,814 first preference votes. At the 2016 general election, he was elected as a Fianna Fáil TD for Kildare North to Dáil Éireann, and was subsequently appointed as Fianna Fáil junior spokesperson on Financial Services, eGovernment and Procurement by party leader Micheál Martin. Francis O'Rourke (5 December 1876 – 24 December 1954) was a Scottish international footballer who played as a centre forward in Scotland for Airdrieonians and in England for Bradford City. Career Born in Lanarkshire to a Scottish mother and a father originally form County Tyrone who died in 1881, O'Rourke started his career with Airdrieonians, where he spent eight years and won a Division Two title-winning medal in the 1902–03 season.
