Frank Morse is an American politician served as a member of the Oregon State Senate for the 8th district from 2003 until 2012. He was first elected in 2002, defeating Democrat Barbara Ross, and was re-elected in 2006 and 2010. In September 2012, Morse resigned his office, stating that it was "time for new energy" in the position. Early life and education Frank Morse was born and raised in Lebanon, Oregon. The Oregon State Senate is the upper house of the statewide legislature for the US state of Oregon. Along with the lower chamber Oregon House of Representatives it makes up the Oregon Legislative Assembly. There are 30 members of the state Senate, representing 30 districts across the state, each with a population of 127,700. The state Senate meets in the east wing of the Oregon State Capitol in Salem. Oregon state senators serve four-year terms without term limits. In 2002, the Oregon Supreme Court struck down the decade-old Oregon Ballot Measure 3, that had restricted state senators to two terms (eight years) on procedural grounds. Like certain other upper houses of state and territorial legislatures and the United States Senate, the state Senate can confirm or reject gubernatorial appointments to state departments, commissions, boards, and other state governmental agencies. Ben Westlund
Bernard John "Ben" Westlund II (September 3, 1949 – March 7, 2010) was an American politician in the U.S. state of Oregon. A Democrat, he was elected State Treasurer in 2008. Previously, Westlund served in both houses of the Oregon Legislative Assembly, as a Republican from 1996 to 2006, as an independent from 2006 to 2007, and then as a Democrat. Westlund dropped his Republican party affiliation to run for Governor of Oregon in the 2006 election, but dropped out of the race in August. In December 2006 he became a Democrat. Westlund worked as a business analyst, and ran businesses in mining, ranching, and agriculture.
