Frank Kelly
Francis Kelly (28 December 1938 – 28 February 2016) was an Irish actor, singer and writer, whose career covered television, radio, theatre, music, screenwriting and film. He is best remembered for playing Father Jack Hackett in the Channel 4 sitcom ''Father Ted''. Early life and career Kelly was born, in 1938, in Blackrock, south County Dublin, where he lived most of his life. His parents were Kathleen and Charles E. Kelly, cartoonist and founder of the satirical magazine '' Dublin Opinion''. He was educated at Blackrock College and went on to study law at University College Dublin and tried journalism, working for years as a subeditor at Irish newspapers, before moving on to acting. He worked at Dublin's Eblana Theatre with Cecil Sheridan and as a feed to Jack Cruise. Other work included pantomime and reviews. Francis David Kelly (8 December 1892 – 5 May 1919) was a Scottish professional footballer who played as an outside right in the Scottish League for Motherwell and Celtic. Personal life Kelly was the son of former Celtic player and chairman James Kelly, while his younger brother Robert also served the club as chairman. He served as a private in the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) during the First World War. Kelly survived the war, but was killed trying to jump onto a train in Montargis, France France (), officially the French Republic ( ), is a country primarily located in Western Europe. Francis James Kelly (23 December 1910 – 6 July 1982) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood, Melbourne, Essendon and St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Michael Joseph Kelly (1892-1953), and Eleanor Mary Kelly (1892-1977), née Caroll, Francis James Kelly was born at Northcote, Victoria on 23 December 1910. He married Thelma Veronica Mitchener (1909-2012) in 1934. __NOTOC__ Francis Patrick Kelly, CBE, FRS (born 28 December 1950) is Professor of the Mathematics of Systems at the Statistical Laboratory, University of Cambridge. He served as Master of Christ's College, Cambridge from 2006 to 2016. Kelly's research interests are in random processes, networks and optimisation, especially in very large-scale systems such as telecommunication or transportation networks. In the 1980s, he worked with colleagues in Cambridge and at British Telecom's Research Labs on Dynamic Alternative Routing in telephone networks, which was implemented in BT's main digital telephone network. He has also worked on the economic theory of pricing to congestion control and fair resource allocation in the internet. From 2003 to 2006 he served as Chief Scientific Advisor to the United Kingdom Department for Transport. Kelly was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1989. Frank J. Kelly is a British professor of community health and policy and Head of the Environmental Research Group (a global centre dedicated to air pollution research) at Imperial College London. He is an authority on the medical effects of air pollution. Academic career and research Kelly obtained his first degree from Queen's University Belfast, before taking a Ph.D. in physiology there as well. He then joined Pennsylvania State University, as a postdoctoral fellow. After working in the United States, he returned to the UK as a lecturer at Southampton University. During the early part of his career, his research focused on free-radical biology and human disease, and lung damage in premature babies and cystic fibrosis patients. In 1992, Kelly moved to London and developed a new research interest in the effect of air pollution on lungs and respiratory health.
