Frank J. Coleman
Frank John Coleman (26 April 1888 – 29 November 1948) was an American silent film actor. He was born on 26 April 1888 in Newburgh, New York. He acted with Charlie Chaplin at Essanay Studios in Los Angeles, and continued with him at Mutual in June 1917. The Adventurer (1917 Film)
''The Adventurer'' is an American short comedy film made in 1917 written and directed by Charlie Chaplin, and is the last of the twelve films made under contract for the Mutual Film Corporation. Plot This film starts with a man-hunt, where the police are hunting for an escaped convict (Charlie Chaplin) who has cleverly eluded the guards so far. One police officer (Henry Bergman) is told to guard the beach in case the escaped felon came within sight again. However, unbeknownst to the officer, Charlie is actually under a load of sand, buried right next to the officer. Fully aware of the danger, he is very cautious regarding his escape. He unburies himself very cautiously, however, Bergman is asleep, and he falls back on the hole which Charlie created while un-burying himself. Of course, Charlie makes a run, but it is too late. The Pawnshop
''The Pawnshop'' was Charlie Chaplin's sixth film for Mutual Film Corporation. Released on October 2, 1916, it stars Chaplin in the role of assistant to the pawnshop owner, played by Henry Bergman. Edna Purviance plays the owner's daughter, while Albert Austin appears as an alarm clock owner who watches Chaplin in dismay as he dismantles the clock; the massive Eric Campbell's character attempts to rob the shop. This was one of Chaplin's more popular movies for Mutual, mainly for the slapstick comedy he was famous for at the time. Synopsis Chaplin plays an assistant in a pawnshop run by Henry Bergman. Plot As described in a film magazine, Larry Semon is a stage hand and is also part of the audience, which keeps one guessing regarding the dual capacity. He steals a bouquet of flowers meant for the star and gives them to a member of the chorus, not knowing that a cat has knocked over a bottle of ink on them. He then turns on the wind machine at the wrong time, filling the stage and playhouse with black powder. ''Behind the Screen'' is a 1916 American silent short comedy film written by, directed by, and starring Charlie Chaplin, and also starring Eric Campbell and Edna Purviance. The film is in the public domain. Plot The film takes place in a silent movie studio. Charlie Chaplin plays stagehand named David who has an enormous supervisor named Goliath (Eric Campbell). David is overworked but is still labelled as a loafer by the lazy Goliath and his supervisor. A country girl (Edna Purviance) arrives at the studio in hopes of becoming an actress, but is quickly turned away by Goliath. Most of the other stagehands go on wildcat strike to protest their sleep being interrupted during their lunch break.
