Frank E. Baxter
Frank E. Baxter (born 1936) is a Republican American businessman and diplomat. He was the United States Ambassador to Uruguay under George W. Bush, from 2006 to 2009. Biography Early life Frank E. Baxter was born in Northern California in 1936. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. In 1961, he graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a B.A. in economics. Career From 1961 to 1963, he worked for the Bank of California in San Francisco. In 1963, he joined J.S. Strauss and Company, San Francisco. From 1974 to 2002, he worked for Jefferies and Company. By 1987, he became its CEO, and started the Investment Technology Group. He has served on the board of directors of NASDAQ and the Securities Industry Association. The Los Angeles Opera is an American opera company in Los Angeles, California. It is the fourth-largest opera company in the United States. The company's home base is the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, part of the Los Angeles Music Center. Siwanoy Country Club is a country club located in Bronxville, New York. The club hosted the first PGA Championship in 1916, which was won by Jim Barnes. History The Club was incorporated on May 20, 1901 at the Westchester County Clerk's office. The officers were president, Archibald M. Campbell; vice-president, Frank Mack vice-president; secretary, William N. G. Clarke; Arthur D. Stone, treasurer; and Alfred E. Taylor, team captain. The Los Angeles Country Club is a golf and country club on the west coast of the United States, located in Los Angeles, California. History In the fall of 1897, a group of Los Angeles residents organized the Los Angeles Golf Club, and a lot was leased at the corner of Pico and Alvarado streets (now part of the Alvarado Terrace Historic District) for a nine-hole golf course. Called "The Windmill Links," the course was named for a makeshift clubhouse crafted from the bottom of an abandoned windmill. Through the middle of 1898, this site served as the club's home until the course became too crowded. The club was removed to Pico Heights, at Hobart and 16th streets.
