Frank D. Robinson
Franklin Davis Robinson (January 14, 1930 – November 12, 2022) was an American aeronautical engineer and the founder of Robinson Helicopter Company in Torrance, California. He served as President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the company for many years. In the early 1970s, Robinson designed the Robinson R22 helicopter, a popular, light, two-place civilian aircraft, which later developed into the R44, one of the most successful civil helicopters in history. Life and career Robinson was born in Carbonado in Washington state, the youngest of four children. His father worked as a coal miner, a saw mill operator, and a fishing resort owner. He received his BSME degree from the University of Washington in 1957, with graduate work in aeronautical engineering at the University of Wichita. Carbonado, Washington
Carbonado () is a town in Pierce County, Washington, United States. Carbonado is located near the Carbon River in northern Pierce County, approximately 50 miles (80 km) southeast of Seattle. Carbonado is the last town before entering Mount Rainier National Park and is also a popular spot for jeeping. Carbonado served as an important coal mining community in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, when the town operated the largest coal mine in Pierce County. The population was 734 at the 2020 census. History Carbonado was one of quite a few towns in the Carbon River valley to be settled during an economic boom in the region. Kaman Aircraft
Kaman Corporation is an American aerospace company, with headquarters in Bloomfield, Connecticut. It was founded in 1945 by Charles Kaman. During the first ten years the company operated exclusively as a designer and manufacturer of several helicopters that set world records and achieved many aviation firsts. In 1956, Kaman began to diversify as an aerospace subcontractor of McDonnell Douglas, Grumman, and others.
