Frank Brown (journalist)
Frank Brown (born 1952/1953) is an American sports journalist and former National Hockey League (NHL) communications executive. During his career, Brown has worked for the ''New York Daily News,'' ''The Associated Press,'' and the NHL as a communications executive. After retiring in 2018, Brown was awarded the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award by the Hockey Hall of Fame. Career Brown published his first paid hockey article in a 1970 New York Rangers game program for $50 from the Rangers public relations director. From there, he began his career as a journalist for The Associated Press, typically covering the Montreal Canadiens. Under the leadership of Stan Fischler, Brown stated he learned the "courage of my convictions" after being handed Gordie Howe's phone number. Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award
The Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award is an accolade presented annually to a print newspaper columnist or reporter in recognition of their achievements covering the game of ice hockey. The award is "to recognize distinguished members of the newspaper profession whose words have brought honor to journalism and to hockey." The Hockey Hall of Fame established the accolade in 1984 and named it after the Montreal-based Canadian newspaper sports journalist Elmer Ferguson. Early in the year, the recipient is chosen by a committee of members from the Professional Hockey Writers' Association. The winner receives the award from the Hockey Hall of Fame at a ceremony held at BCE Place, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Stan Fischler
Stan Fischler (born March 31, 1932) is a historian of hockey and the New York City Subway, as well as a broadcaster, author, and professor. During his career, Fischler was best known for covering the New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers on MSG and MSG Plus. He also provided general hockey analysis on MSG, and continues to write columns for the network's website. In 2009, Fischler began hosting a feature, "Five For Fischler", on ''Hockey Night Live!'' which lists his Top Five in a random hockey topic. In the 1980s, he was a hockey commentator for ''The Radio Show'' on CBC Radio in Canada. He was also a color commentator for the New England Whalers of the WHA in their first two years in 1972–73 and 1973–74. Gordie Howe
Gordon Howe (March 31, 1928 – June 10, 2016) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. From 1946 to 1980, he played 26 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) and six seasons in the World Hockey Association (WHA); his first 25 seasons were spent with the Detroit Red Wings. Nicknamed "Mr. Hockey", Howe is often considered the most complete player to ever play the game and one of the greatest of all time.
