Frank Brennan (footballer)
Francis Brennan (23 April 1924 – 5 March 1997) was a Scottish footballer. Brennan was a tough centre half who moved to Newcastle United from Airdrieonians for £7,500 in 1946. He made his debut for the club against Millwall in August 1946 and appeared on 351 occasions for the Magpies between 1946 and 1956. Brennan moved into management after his playing retirement, initially with North Shields between 1956 and 1962, then in Singapore and Trinidad. He returned to North Shields in 1967 and helped them to victory in the 1969 FA Amateur Cup. He was appointed manager of Darlington in August 1971 but stayed in the post for only three months before joining South Shields in a coaching role in 1972. Career statistics :A. Annathill
Annathill () is a small village located near Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, although closer to Glenboig. The name "Annathill" is thought to be derived from a patron saint's church. Annathill is on the banks of the Mollins Burn, a tributary of the Luggie Water. History Annathill was primarily famous for coal, as it was home to Bedlay Colliery. The majority of miners from Bedlay Colliery came from Annathill and there were three "Miners' Rows" of houses along with various shops, a butchers and a pub which were all built around the same time Bedlay Colliery was sunk in 1905. On 11 December 1981, Bedlay Colliery was closed by the then Conservative government and was left abandoned until 1982 when it was filled in (or "capped") and the complex demolished. Post-closure, in the 1990s, the land on which Bedlay Colliery sat on (owned by the National Coal Board) underwent an operation to restore the ground to what it looked like before the colliery was sunk. 1952 FA Cup Final
The 1952 FA Cup Final was the final match of the 1951–52 staging of the Football Association Challenge Cup (better known as the FA Cup), English football's main cup competition. The match was contested by Newcastle United and Arsenal at Wembley Stadium in London on 3 May 1952. It was hitherto only the second time that an FA Cup Final was played in May; 1937 being the first. Coronation Cup (football)
The Coronation Cup was a one-off football tournament to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, between four English and four Scottish clubs, held in Glasgow in May 1953. This tournament, like the Empire Exhibition Trophy, was held in very high regard by football clubs, as at the time it allowed teams to test themselves against teams from another country in the days before European football. Celtic and Hibernian met in the final at Hampden Park, Celtic coming out the winners 2–0 before 117,000 spectators. Celtic's victory meant that they became the unofficial champions of Britain. FA Community Shield
The Football Association Community Shield (formerly the Charity Shield) is Football in England, English football's annual match contested at Wembley Stadium between the champions of the previous Premier League season and the holders of the FA Cup. If the Premier League champions also won the FA Cup, then the league runners-up provide the opposition. The fixture is recognised as a competitive super cup by The Football Association and UEFA. Organised by the FA, proceeds from the game are distributed to community initiatives and charities around the country.
