Frank Bourke
Francis Michael "Frank" Bourke (3 February 1922 – 27 December 2011) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Richmond Football Club in the Victorian Football League during the 1940s. He played one game during the 1943 season while on leave from the RAAF. After the war Bourke joined the club for the 1946 season playing in 9 games before a knee injury. He would come back to play in 1947 for 6 games before retirement. Nathalia Football Club
The Nathalia Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Purples'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Nathalia located in north east Victoria. The club currently compete in the Murray League, which Nathalia joined in 1931. Club history The club was established in 1888 and played in a number of different football associations in its early years, winning a number of premierships along the way. The club managed to win five Goulburn Valley Football Association premierships between 1896 and 1930. At a Murray Football League (MFL) club's delegates meeting in June, 1940, MFL club's decided to abandoned the season and a motion was carried to conclude the season at the end of the first round. Francis Bourke
Francis William Bourke (born 2 April 1947) is a former Australian rules footballer and coach who represented Richmond in the Victorian Football League (VFL) between 1967 and 1981, and coached the club in 1982 and 1983. A key figure in a successful period at Richmond, Bourke is a five-time premiership player who was honoured with selection in the AFL's Team of the Century. His is the only family to have provided three generations of players for the Richmond senior team: Bourke's father, Frank, played 16 matches in the 1940s and his son, David played 85 games between 1995 and 2001. Nathalia Football Club Players
Nathalia ( ) is a town in northern Victoria, Australia. The town is located within the Shire of Moira local government area on the banks of Broken Creek and on the Murray Valley Highway. At the 2021 census, Nathalia had a population of 1,982. History Prior to European settlement, the area around Nathalia was occupied by the Yorta Yorta people. In 1838, Charles Sturt was the first European to explore the area, following the Murray River downstream. The squatter, W.J Locke established Kotupna station on the future site of Nathalia in 1843. The station was broken up for closer settlement in 1869. A selector, Richard Blake took up the townsite in 1875 and established a sawmill and flour mill soon after. Hotels, a post office (opened on 7 September 1878), schools and churches followed and Nathalia was officially gazetted as a village in 1880. The South West District Football League was a major Australian rules football competition which ran from 1910 until 1981 in the Riverina region of New South Wales. History The first recorded Australian Rules Football match in the Riverina area was on the 1st August, 1881 between Wagga Wagga and the more experienced Albury team and was played in Wagga. The South West District Football Association (SWDFL) was formed in 1913, when it superseded the Ganmain Football Association, which was formed in 1910, with all clubs moving into play in the SWDFL competition. In 1924 a South Western District Football League team played Collingwood Football Club at Narrandera with Collingwood winning, 86 to SWDFL 76. In May, 1930 the SWDFL competition was abandoned, after Whitton withdrew earlier at the AGM, then both Ganmain and Matong club withdrew due to a lack of players. The Murray Football Netball League is an Australian rules football and netball league affiliated with the Victorian Country Football League. The league covers a large area of northern Victoria and southern New South Wales from Shepparton in the south to Deniliquin in the north. It covers much the same area as the Picola & District Football League but the teams tend to be the larger communities and towns. 1946 VFL Season
The 1946 VFL season was the 50th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 20 April until 5 October, and comprised a 19-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The league's thirds/under-19s competition played its inaugural season. The premiership was won by the Essendon Football Club for the eighth time, after it defeated by 63 points in the 1946 VFL Grand Final.
