''Frank Black'' is the debut solo album by American alternative rock musician Frank Black. The album was recorded in 1992 and released on March 8, 1993, via 4AD and Elektra Records, after the breakup of Black's band Pixies. The album is similar in style, both musically and lyrically, to the Pixies' last album prior to their 1993 breakup, '' Trompe le Monde''. ''Frank Black'' is characterized by a focus on UFOs and science fiction. ''Select'' was a United Kingdom music magazine of the 1990s. It was known for covering indie rock, but featured a wide array of music. Launched in July 1990, its first cover star was Prince. After EMAP Metro bought ''Select'', they revamped its image, and it became known for its coverage of Britpop, a term coined in the magazine by Stuart Maconie. Its 1993 "Yanks Go Home" edition, featuring The Auteurs, Denim, Saint Etienne, Pulp and Suede's Brett Anderson on the cover in front of a Union Flag, was an important impetus in defining the movement's opposition to American genres such as grunge. Later, John Harris stepped down as editor, and was replaced by former ''Mixmag'' editor Alexis Petridis. "I Know There's an Answer" (alternately known as "Hang On to Your Ego") is a song by American rock band the Beach Boys from their 1966 album ''Pet Sounds''. Written by Brian Wilson, Terry Sachen, and Mike Love, the song was inspired by Wilson's experience with the drug LSD and his struggle with ego death. Musically, it is distinguished for its colorful arrangement, unorthodox structure, and bass harmonica solo. The instrumentation also includes guitars, tack piano, banjo, clarinets, flutes, electric keyboards, and timpani. "Los Angeles" is the debut solo single written and performed by Frank Black. It was the first track on his solo debut album ''Frank Black'', released in 1993. It served as the main theme song for the short lived but cult favorite VH1 talk show ''Late World with Zach''. It was also featured in the soundtrack of ''Tony Hawk's American Wasteland'' as well as in Girl Skateboards' 2003 video ''Yeah Right!'', in which the song played during Eric Koston's video part. Also, a music video was made for the song featuring Black himself. Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson IV (born April 6, 1965) is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He is best known as the frontman of the alternative rock band Pixies, with whom he performs under the stage name Black Francis.
