Frank Allen (Australian Footballer)
Frank William Allen (5 December 1926 – 4 February 2018) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the East Perth Football Club in the Western Australian National Football League (WANFL). He tied with Jim Conway for the 1950 Sandover Medal. Career Allen was born at Nurse Harvey's Hospital in Perth, Western Australia, across the road from Perth Oval, the East Perth Football Club's home ground. Perth is a suburb in the Perth metropolitan region, Western Australia that includes both the central business district of the city, and a suburban area spreading north to the northern side of Hyde Park. It does not include the separate suburbs of Northbridge or Highgate. 1956 Perth Carnival
The 1956 Perth Carnival was the 13th edition of the Australian National Football Carnival, an Australian rules football interstate competition. It took place from 11 to 23 June at Subiaco Oval, Perth. Five teams automatically qualified for the carnival as a result of their finishing positions at the 1953 Adelaide Carnival: two Victorian teams Victoria (VFL) and Victoria (VFA), the hosts Western Australia, South Australia &. Tasmania, which had finished last at the 1953 Carnival, qualified only after defeating the winners of the lower division, the Australian Amateurs, in a playoff at North Hobart Oval on 10 July 1954, by the score of 16.21 (117) to 9.10 (64). Victoria finished the fortnight unbeaten while Tasmania equaled their best performance ever by finishing third. Sunday Football League (1984–2008)
The Sunday Football League Western Australia, commonly known as the Sunday Football League (SFL), was a semi-professional Australian rules football league based in the southern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. The league was in operation from 1984 to 2008, and Kenwick Royals was the most successful club with eight senior team premierships. History The Sunday Football League (SFL) was formed in late 1983 after a proposed merger between the South Suburban Murray Football League (SSMFL) and Western Australian Football Association (WAFA) fell through. The twelve SSMFL clubs were Armadale, Canning, Gosnells, Kalamunda, Kelmscott, Kenwick, Kwinana, Maddington, Mandurah, Rockingham, Thornlie and Willetton. Best And Fairest
In Australian sport, the best and fairest award recognises the player(s) adjudged to have had the best performance in a game or over a season for a given sporting club or competition. The awards are sometimes dependent on not receiving a suspension for misconduct or breaching the rules during that season. In the Australian Football League (AFL), the Brownlow Medal is awarded to the player who, provided he has not been suspended during the season, receives the most votes from the umpires for being the Fairest and Best player in games during the home and away season. In each game, the umpires award three votes to the player they judge to be the best afield in that game, two votes to the second-best player and one vote to the third-best player. The votes are counted at a gala function on the Monday preceding the Grand Final.
