Francis Winnington (Droitwich MP)
Francis Winnington (1704 – c.1754) of Broadway was an English politician and barrister. Francis was the son of Francis Winnington of Broadway, the second son of Sir Francis Winnington. He matriculated at Trinity College, Oxford on 29 March 1721, at the age of 17, and was called to the bar at the Middle Temple on 9 February 1728. From 1733 to 1747, he was Solicitor to the Admiralty, before resigning the post to enter Parliament. He sat as MP for Droitwich from 1747 to 1754. His marriage to Susannah Courtney or Courtenay left no children. Broadway, Worcestershire
Broadway is a large village and civil parish in the Cotswolds, England, with a population of 2,540 at the 2011 census. It is in the far southeast of Worcestershire, close to the Gloucestershire border, midway between Evesham and Moreton-in-Marsh. It is sometimes referred to as the "Jewel of the Cotswolds". Broadway village lies beneath Fish Hill on the western Cotswold escarpment. The "broad way" is the wide grass-fringed main street, centred on the Green, which is lined with red chestnut trees and honey-coloured Cotswold limestone buildings, many dating from the 16th century. It is known for its association with the Arts and Crafts movement, and is in an area of outstanding scenery and conservation. Lord George Bentinck (1715-1759)
Lord George Bentinck (1715–1759) was a British Army officer and Member of Parliament (MP). Biography The second son of Henry Bentinck, 1st Duke of Portland, he received the appointment of ensign on 3 November 1735, and having been promoted on 12 April 1743 to the command of a company in the 1st Foot Guards, with the rank of lieutenant-colonel, he served at the battle of Dettingen in June that year. He obtained the appointment of aide-de-camp to the King on 12 March 1752, and the colonelcy of the 5th Regiment of Foot on 29 August 1754. He was afterwards promoted to the rank of major-general, and at the 1754 general election he was elected as the Member of Parliament for the borough of Malmesbury in Wiltshire. He died at Bath on 2 March 1759. Edwin Sandys, 2nd Baron Sandys
Edwin Sandys, 2nd Baron Sandys (28 April 1726 – 11 March 1797), was a British politician. He was the eldest son of Samuel Sandys, 1st Baron Sandys, and his wife Letitia, daughter of Sir Thomas Tipping, Bt. He was educated at New College, Oxford, matriculating in 1743. He did not graduate, but was awarded a DCL in 1756. He served as Member of Parliament for Droitwich from 1747 to 1754, for Bossiney from 1754 to 1762 and for Westminster from 1762 to 1770. He was a Lord of the Admiralty from April to July, 1757. On 26 January 1769 Sandys married Anna Maria King, daughter of James Colebrooke and widow of William Paine King. On his father's death in 1770, he succeeded to the barony as the 2nd Baron Sandys, and to estates in Ombersley (including Ombersley Court) and elsewhere. Francis Winnington (Solicitor-General)
Sir Francis Winnington (7 November 1634 – 1 May 1700) was an English lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1677 and 1698. He became Solicitor-General to King Charles II. Biography Winnington entered the Middle Temple in 1656 and was called to the bar in 1660 and rose steadily, serving as counsel in various Parliamentary impeachments. In January 1672, he became attorney-general to the king's brother, the Duke of York and was knighted on 16 December 1672. He was appointed as Solicitor General in 1675 and chosen as MP for Windsor at a by-election to the Cavalier Parliament in 1677 on the King's recommendation. During the hysteria of the Popish Plot, Winnington's allegiances changed, and he participated in impeaching the Lord Danby. This led to his dismissal as Solicitor General.
