Francis West
Francis West (28 October 1586 – February 1633/1634) was a Deputy Governor of the Colony and Dominion of Virginia. Early and family life Born in Salisbury, Wiltshire on 28 October 1586, West was one of four sons of Thomas West, 2nd Baron De La Warr (1556–1602) of Wherwell Abbey in Hampshire and his wife, Anne Knollys who made their fortunes in the Virginia colony. His elder brother, Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr (1577–1618), served as a governor of the Virginia Company of London from 1610–1611. His younger brother, John West (1590-ca 1659), served as Acting Governor of Virginia from 1635–1637. A fourth brother, Nathaniel West, died in Virginia in August 1623, aged 30. Francis West (bishop)
Francis Horner West (9 January 19092 January 1999) was a British Anglican bishop. He was the Bishop of Taunton in the Church of England from 1962 until 1977. West was educated at Berkhamsted School and Magdalene College, Cambridge. He was ordained as a deacon on 11 June 1933 (Trinity Sunday) at Leeds Parish Church and priest the next Trinity Sunday, 27 May 1934, at Christ Church, Harrogate — both times by Edward Burroughs, Bishop of Ripon. He was a curate at St Agnes Leeds and then chaplain of Ridley Hall, Cambridge. After wartime service as a Chaplain to the Forces he was vicar of Upton then Archdeacon of Newark before his ordination to the episcopate. He was consecrated a bishop on 2 February 1962 by Michael Ramsey, Archbishop of Canterbury, at Westminster Abbey. Francis West (colonel)
Colonel Francis West (1711 – June 28, 1796) was a Virginia planter and at times the Sheriff of King William County in the Colony and Dominion of Virginia and twice represented the same county in the House of Burgesses, the colony's representative assembly. West was born in King William County, the son of Captain Thomas West and Agnes, both descended from the First Families of Virginia. West was the county Sheriff in 1741. He twice served single terms in the House of Burgesses between 1748–1758. West also served in the Colonial Defense forces during the French and Indian War. West was married twice. The name of his first wife is unknown. Francis West married his second wife, Jane Cole, after the death of her second husband Stephen Bingham in 1759. He died in Fairfax County, Virginia. Francis Robert West
Francis Robert West (c. 1749 – 24 January 1809) was an Irish artist, draughtsman and teacher. Life and family Francis Robert West was born in Dublin around 1749. He was the eldest son of Robert and Maria West. He received his initial training from his father. West was married twice, first to Angelica Wolverston, with Strickland describing him as a "most unwilling bridegroom". His second marriage was to Ellen Walsh. He had 4 sons, Lucius Francis, William who became a surgeon in the navy, while Micheal and Robert Lucius both became artists. Robert Lucius succeeded his father as master of the Dublin Society School. Between 1770 and 1771, he lived at "Mrs Duff's, Cope Street", moving to Exchequer Street in 1772, where he lived for the rest of his life. Bing West
Francis J. "Bing" West Jr. (born May 2, 1940) is an American author, Marine combat veteran and former Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs during the Reagan Administration. West writes about the military, warfighting, and counterinsurgency. In the Vietnam War, he fought in major operations and conducted over a hundred combat patrols in 1966–1968. For the United States Marine Corps, he wrote the training manual ''Small Unit Action in Vietnam'', describing how to fight in close combat. As an analyst at the RAND Corporation, he wrote a half dozen detailed monographs about fighting against an insurgency. Later, as Assistant Secretary of Defense, he dealt with the insurgencies in El Salvador. From 2003 through 2008, he made 16 extended trips to Iraq, going on patrols and writing three books and numerous articles about the war.
