Francis Seymour, 1st Baron Seymour Of Trowbridge
Francis Seymour, 1st Baron Seymour of Trowbridge (c. 1590 – 12 July 1664), of Marlborough Castle and Savernake Park in Wiltshire, was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1621 and 1641 when he was raised to the peerage as Baron Seymour of Trowbridge. He supported the Royalist cause during the English Civil War. Origins Seymour was the third son of Edward Seymour, Lord Beauchamp (died 1612), eldest son and heir apparent of Edward Seymour, 1st Earl of Hertford (1539–1621) (son of Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset, Lord Protector of England) whom he pre-deceased, by his wife Honora Rogers, daughter of Sir Richard Rogers of Bryanstone, Dorset. Francis Seymour, 5th Duke Of Somerset
Francis Seymour, 5th Duke of Somerset (17 January 165820 April 1678), known as 3rd Baron Seymour of Trowbridge between 1665 and 1675, was an English peer. He was the son of Charles Seymour, 2nd Baron Seymour of Trowbridge, and Elizabeth Alington (1635–1692). The dukedom came to him because his grandfather, Sir Francis Seymour, was a younger brother of the 2nd Duke of Somerset. He died aged 20, unmarried and childless, having been shot dead by Horatio Botti (a Genoese gentleman), whose wife Seymour was said to have insulted at Lerici. Francis Seymour, Of Sherborne, Dorset
Francis Seymour (1697 – 23 December 1761), of Sherborne House, Dorset, was a British landowner and Tory politician, who sat in the House of Commons from 1732 to 1741. Seymour was the second son of Sir Edward Seymour, 5th Baronet and his wife Letitia Popham. In 1728, he succeeded to the estates of his paternal great-uncle Henry Seymour Portman MP, which included Sherborne House. He married on 30 July 1728 his cousin Elizabeth Popham, Dowager Lady Hinchingbrooke (died 20 March 1761), daughter of Alexander Popham, of Littlecote, Wiltshire, MP, and great granddaughter of Colonel Alexander Popham. Seymour was returned as Tory Member of Parliament for Great Bedwyn at a by-election on 29 April 1732. At the 1734 British general election he was elected in a contest as MP for Marlborough on the Bruce interest. He did not stand again in 1741. Francis George Hugh Seymour, 5th Marquess of Hertford (11 February 1812 – 25 January 1884), known as Francis Seymour until 1870, was a British army officer, courtier and Conservative politician. He served as Lord Chamberlain of the Household under Benjamin Disraeli from 1874 to 1879. Family and education Seymour was the eldest son of Admiral Sir George Seymour by his wife Georgiana Mary Berkeley, daughter of Sir George Berkeley; he was the elder brother of Henry Seymour and Lady Laura Seymour. Sir Francis Seymour, 1st Baronet
General Sir Francis Seymour, 1st Baronet, (1813–1890) was a British Army officer and courtier. Born 2 August 1813, in Lisburn, County Down, Seymour was the eldest son of Henry Augustus Seymour (1771–1847) and his wife, Margaret (died 1867). In 1834, he was commissioned as an ensign in the 19th Regiment of Foot and promoted to lieutenant in 1837. At the request of Leopold I of Belgium, Seymour accompanied Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha on the latter's visit to Italy in the winter of 1838–1839. Following Albert's marriage to Queen Victoria in 1840, Seymour became his Groom-in-Waiting, an office he continued as such after Albert's death in 1861, to Victoria until 1876, when he became an Extra Groom-in-Waiting. In 1840, Seymour was promoted to captain and exchanged to the Scots Fusilier Guards in 1842. Lord Francis Seymour (1725 - 16 Feb 1799) was a clergyman of the Church of England and a younger son of Edward Seymour, 8th Duke of Somerset. He was Dean of Wells from 1766 until his death. Biography Seymour was the fifth child and fourth son of Edward Seymour, 8th Duke of Somerset, the son and heir of Sir Edward Seymour, 5th Baronet, on whose death in December 1740 his father inherited manors in Wiltshire and Devon and the baronetcy. On 10 October 1743, Seymour matriculated at Queen's College, Oxford, aged eighteen. However, ''Alumni Oxonienses'' does not record that he took a degree. On 11 September 1744, with the unexpected death of George Seymour, Viscount Beauchamp (1725–1744), the only son of Algernon Seymour, 7th Duke of Somerset, the likelihood emerged of Seymour's father succeeding a distant cousin as Duke of Somerset, as the Duke was then aged sixty and his wife was past child-bearing age. Francis Seymour-Conway, 1st Baron Conway of Ragley, 1st Baron Conway of Killultagh, MP, PC (Ire) (28 May 1679 – 3 February 1731/1732), was a British politician, born Francis Seymour. Background Born Francis Seymour, he was the second son of Sir Edward Seymour, 4th Baronet, by his second wife Letitia, daughter of Alexander Popham. This branch of the Seymour family descended from Sir Edward Seymour, son of Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset by his first wife Catherine Filliol. His nephew Sir Edward Seymour succeeded as 8th Duke of Somerset in 1750. Background Hertford was born in Chelsea, London, the son of Francis Seymour-Conway, 1st Baron Conway, and Charlotte Shorter, daughter of John Shorter of Bybrook.
