Francis Rowe (politician)
Francis James Rowe (22 September 1860 – 23 October 1939) was an Australian trade unionist and politician who was a Labor Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1927 to 1930, representing the seat of North-East Fremantle. Rowe was born in Melbourne to Susan Ann (née Stephens) and Francis Rowe. The Western Australian Legislative Assembly, or lower house, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Western Australia, an Australian state. The Parliament sits in Parliament House in the Western Australian capital, Perth. The Legislative Assembly today has 59 members, elected for four-year terms from single-member electoral districts. Members are elected using the preferential voting system. As with all other Australian states and territories, voting is compulsory for all Australian citizens over the legal voting age of 18. The Nationalist Party, also known as the National Party, was an Australian political party. It was formed on 17 February 1917 from a merger between the Commonwealth Liberal Party and the National Labor Party, the latter formed by Prime Minister Billy Hughes and his supporters after the 1916 Labor Party split over World War I conscription.
