Francis Patrick Baker
Francis (Frank) Patrick Baker (30 May 1873 – 2 June 1959) was an Australian politician, serving one term as the representative for seat of Maranoa in the Australian House of Representatives from September 1940 to August 1943. Early life and career Baker was born in Leyburn, Queensland, Australia on 30 May 1873. Educated in private schools in Queensland, Baker became a state school teacher for 10 years before serving as an Inspector for Schools for a further 20 years. Political career In 1940, Baker was elected to represent the seat of Maranoa in the Australian House of Representatives as a member of the Australian Labor Party—only the second time Labor had ever won this normally safe conservative seat in the remote west of Queensland. Baker was narrowly beaten in the 1943 federal election by Charles Adermann of the Australian Country Party, becoming the only Labor incumbent to be defeated in an election that saw Labor win its most-ever seats in the House at the time. The Division of Maranoa is an Australian electoral division in Queensland. Maranoa extends across the Southern Outback and is socially conservative. In the 2016 and 2019 federal elections, Pauline Hanson's One Nation finished ahead of Labor, reaching 20% of the primary vote. Maranoa is a stronghold for the Liberal National Party of Queensland. South Brisbane Cemetery
South Brisbane Cemetery is a heritage-listed cemetery at 21 Fairfield Road and Annerley Road, Dutton Park, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, adjacent to the Brisbane River. It was built from 1870 to 1990s. It is also known as Dutton Park Cemetery. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 1 October 2003. The cemetery was established in 1866 and remained in active use until the 1960s, after which its use has been limited by lack of space for new graves. History In 1851, the residents of South Brisbane discovered (apparently to their surprise) that the government of New South Wales (before the separation of Queensland) had set aside around 5 acres of land for a general cemetery for South Brisbane. (In 2011 that land is the site of the West End State School.) However, no trustees were ever appointed and no burials occurred. Beaudesert is a rural town and locality in the Scenic Rim Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Beaudesert had a population of 6,395 people. Beaudesert is the administrative centre for the Scenic Rim Region. Geography Beaudesert is south of Brisbane and west of the Gold Coast. The Division of Griffith is an electoral division for the Australian House of Representatives. The division covers the inner southern suburbs of Brisbane, Queensland. History The division is named after Sir Samuel Griffith, former politician and a principal author of the Constitution of Australia. Griffith was created in 1934, replacing the seat of Oxley which had been established in 1900. James Aitchison Johnston Hunter (4 July 1882 – 27 October 1968) was an Australian politician. Hunter was born at Springburn, near Glasgow, Scotland and migrated with his family to Brisbane in 1884 educated there.
