Francis Darcy
Sir Francis Darcy (died 29 November 1641) was an English soldier and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1601 and 1629. Darcy was the son of Sir Arthur Darcy. His grandfather Thomas, Lord Darcy was executed for treason in 1537. He became a captain in Colonel Morgan’s regiment under the Earl of Leicester and served in the Netherlands in 1585. In 1591 he served under the Earl of Essex at Rouen and was knighted at the siege of Rouen in that year. He settled at Isleworth in 1592 and became a J.P. by 1596 and a commissioner for musters in 1598, "being a gentleman of great experience in martial affairs". He was appointed a colonel of foot in the Earl of Essex’s Irish expedition in 1599. He became provost marshal of Middlesex in 1601. Also in 1601, he was elected Member of Parliament for Lymington. House Of Commons Of England
The House of Commons of England was the lower house of the Parliament of England (which incorporated Wales) from its development in the 14th century to the union of England and Scotland in 1707, when it was replaced by the House of Commons of Great Britain after the 1707 Act of Union was passed in both the English and Scottish parliaments at the time. In 1801, with the union of Great Britain and Republic of Ireland, Ireland, that house was in turn replaced by the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. Origins The Parliament of England developed from the Magnum Concilium that advised the English monarch in medieval times. This royal council, meeting for short periods, included ecclesiastics, noblemen, and representatives of the county, counties (known as "knights of the shire"). Henry Spiller
Sir Henry Spiller (c. 1570 – 16 April 1649) was an English office-holder, landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1614 and 1629. He supported the Royalist cause in the English Civil War. Biography Spiller was born in about 1570, fifth son of John Spiller of Shaftesbury, Dorset. His only known education was as a law student at Lincoln's Inn in 1606, but he was already employed in government service as clerk to the Lord Treasurer's Remembrancer by 1594. Edward Spencer (English Politician)
Sir Edward Spencer (1594 – 16 February 1656) was an English landowner, lawyer, knight, nobleman, and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1621 and 1648. Life Spencer was the son of Robert Spencer, 1st Baron Spencer of Wormleighton and his wife Margaret Willoughby the daughter of Sir Francis Willoughby and Elizabeth Lyttelton. He was baptised at Brington on 2 March 1594. He matriculated at Corpus Christi College, Oxford on 13 November 1609, aged 14 and was awarded BA on 18 February 1612. In 1618 he was called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn. In 1621, Spencer was elected Member of Parliament for Brackley. He was re-elected MP for Brackley in 1624 and 1625. John Suckling (politician)
Sir John Suckling (1569 – 27 March 1627) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1601 and 1627. Suckling was the son of Robert Suckling, mayor of Norwich and MP for the city's constituency between 1571-1572 and 1586-1588, and his wife Elizabeth Barwick, daughter of William Barwick. Sir Gilbert Gerard, 1st Baronet of Harrow on the Hill (23 October 1587 – 6 January 1670), was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1614 and 1660. Thomas Lake
Sir Thomas Lake PC (1567 – 17 September 1630) was Secretary of State to James I of England. He was a Member of Parliament between 1593 and 1626. Thomas Lake was baptised in Southampton on 11 October 1567, the son of Almeric Lake, a minor customs official: his obscure birth was a source of much unkind comment by his enemies throughout his life. Arthur Lake, Bishop of Bath and Wells, was his older brother. He attended King Edward VI School, Southampton as a day boy. This meant that he did not have the level of French language tuition accorded to boarders by his Belgian schoolmaster Adrian Saravia, which was a source of regret to him in later life.
