Francine Muyumba
Francine Furaha Muyumba (born 18 February 1987) is a Congolese activist and politician serving as Senator in the Senate of Congo. Previously, she served as the president of the Panafrican Youth Union, the official youth body of the African Union from November 2015 to April 2019. Early life Muyumba graduated with a Bachelor of Arts honors degree from the University of Namibia in 2011. There she was also active in student government and in her final year she was elected president of the Student Representative Council, the UNAM SRC, becoming the first ever international student to hold the position. During this time in Namibia, Muyumba served as the acting country coordinator of the United Nations Association. After her studies and tenure as country coordinator, she returned to serve the youth of her native DRC from 2012 to 2014. Haut-Katanga Province
Haut-Katanga (French for "Upper Katanga") is one of the 21 new provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo created in the 2015 repartitioning. Haut-Katanga, Haut-Lomami, Lualaba, and Tanganyika provinces are the result of the dismemberment of the former Katanga province. Haut-Katanga was formed from the Haut-Katanga district and the independently administered cities of Likasi and Lubumbashi. Lubumbashi retained its status as a provincial capital. The new province's territory corresponds to the historic Katanga-Oriental that existed in the early period after independence between 1963 and 1966. Senate Of The Democratic Republic Of The Congo
The Senate is the upper house of the Parliament of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The senate was established in 1960, abolished in 1967 and re-established in 2003. During the transition period in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (2003 - 2006), the Senate, aside from its legislative role, also had the task of drafting the country's new constitution. This task came to fruition with the adoption of the draft in Parliament in May 2005, and its approval by the Congolese people, in a successful democratic referendum on 18 and 19 December 2005. The current President of the Senate is Modeste Bahati Lukwebo, elected in 5 March 2021. The Secretary General is David Byaza Sanda Lutala. The most recent Senate was sworn in on January 28, 2019. Youth Activism
Youth activism is the participation in community organizing for social change by persons between the ages of 15–24. Youth activism has led to a shift in political participation and activism. A notable shift within youth activism is the rise of “Alter-Activism” resulting in an emphasis on lived experiences and connectivity amongst young activists. The young activists have taken lead roles in public protest and advocacy around many issues like climate change, abortion rights and gun violence. Different from past protest or advocacy, technology has become the backbone to many of these modern youth movements.
