Frances F. Kaplan
Frances Fisher Kaplan (1937-2018) was known for her work in the field of art therapy. She was the editor of ''Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association'' from 2001 until 2005. Education Kaplan obtained a chemistry degree from Florida State University in 1960 and then earned an M.P.S. from the Pratt Institute. She finished her doctorate in art therapy from New York University in 1985. She worked as an art therapist in New Jersey, starting at Morristown Memorial Hospital in 1976, and then worked at the Carrier Foundation Psychiatric Hospital until 1986. She then moved to Hofstra University from 1989 until 1996, Portland State University (1998 until 2003), and then started at Marylhurst University where she was named associate professor in 2008. Art Therapy
Art therapy (not to be confused with ''arts therapy'', which includes other creative therapies such as drama therapy and music therapy) is a distinct discipline that incorporates creative methods of expression through visual art media. Art therapy, as a creative arts therapy profession, originated in the fields of art and psychotherapy and may vary in definition. There are three main ways that art therapy is employed. The first one is called analytic art therapy. Analytic art therapy is based on the theories that come from analytical psychology, and in more cases, psychoanalysis. Analytic art therapy focuses on the client, the therapist, and the ideas that are transferred between the both of them through art. Another way that art therapy is utilized is art psychotherapy. Marylhurst University was a private applied liberal arts and business university in Marylhurst, Oregon. It was among the oldest collegiate degree-granting institutions in Oregon, having awarded its first degree in 1897.
