Frampton Pools
Frampton Pools () is a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Gloucestershire, notified in 1974. The pools are on the edge of the village of Frampton on Severn. The site is in the Severn Vale and consists of a number of lakes created as a result of gravel extraction. These provide a good open water habitat which is important for wintering wildfowl. The site is mostly standing water which is surrounded by broadleaved woodland, scrub and the margins support marginal vegetation. The larger, deeper northern pit has steep banks and is often subjected to disturbance by sailing, the southern pit is smaller and shallower with well-vegetated banks and is less disturbed. The northern pool is known as Court Lake and has an area of and the southern pool is called Townsfield Lake and has an area of . Owen Frampton
Owen Frampton (6 April 1919 – 16 September 2005) was an English art teacher. He was the father of musician Peter Frampton and a teacher of musician David Bowie. Early life Frampton was born in the Kennington district of London, England. His family later lived in other communities, including Sheerness and Beckenham. After the beginning of World War II, he enlisted in the British Army. He became an officer in the Royal Artillery, and participated in the North African Campaign, the Allied invasion of Sicily, and the Battle of Monte Cassino. He left the army and returned to Great Britain in 1946. Family In 1941, he married his childhood friend Peggy , to whom he remained married for 64 years, until his death. They had two sons, Peter and Clive. Frampton provided Peter with his first musical instrument, a banjolele that had belonged to his mother (Peter's grandmother). Mary Frampton (7 June 1773 – 1846) was an English diarist and botanist. Biography Mary Frampton was born on 7 June 1773 in Moreton, Dorset. Her father was James Frampton and her mother was Phillis Frampton, ex-wife of Charlton Wollaston. Frampton would regularly travel to London with her parents and witnessed the Gordon Riots and the trial of Warren Hastings. Her father died in 1784 and Frampton settled in Dorchester with her mother, where they were central to local society. Frampton kept a diary from a young age; this was published as ''The Journal of Mary Frampton, From The Year 1779 to Until The Year 1846'' in 1885. It starts in 1803, with memories from 1779, and includes correspondence with Frampton's friends, as well as notes by Frampton's niece and editor, Harriot Mundy. Her journal is regarded as a good source of Regency and Victorian Thought and details important events in British politics during her lifetime. Frampton Priory was a Benedictine priory in England, near the village of Frampton in Dorset and mentioned in the Domesday Book. The priory was subordinate to the Abbey of Saint-Étienne, in Caen, Normandy. Frampton Court
Frampton Court is a Grade I listed country house and estate of about in Frampton-on-Severn, Gloucestershire, England. It has been owned by the Clifford family since the 11th century. The main buildings are the 18th century Frampton Court and, on the opposite side of the village green, Manor Farm. The gardens at Frampton Court have a Gothic orangery and ornamental canal in the style of William Halfpenny. The two houses, barn and orangery are all Grade I listed buildings in their own right, while the Gatepiers and Gates are Grade II* listed. History The main estate originated from a lease of land granted to William Clifford and his family in 1320. The Feudal barony of Clifford had previously had their seat at Clifford Castle in Herefordshire.
