Fox Channel (Germany)
Fox (sometimes known as Fox Channel) was a German pay television channel dedicated to television drama series. It relied heavily on American and British drama series. History On 10 March 2008, News Corporation applied for a broadcasting license for ''Fox International Channels Germany GmbH'' from MABB, the media authority for the Berlin Brandenburg region. The channel was greenlit a month later. It was launched on 19 May 2008 exclusively on satellite-television provider Premiere. On 1 April 2009, the channel changed its aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 widescreen. In October 2010, it launched its own HD feed, broadcasting at 1080i. In November 2011, FOX bought pay-TV rights to rerun the first two seasons of legal drama ''The Good Wife''. 1080i
1080i (also known as Full HD or BT.709) is a combination of frame resolution and scan type. 1080i is used in high-definition television (HDTV) and high-definition video. The number "1080" refers to the number of horizontal lines on the screen. The "i" is an abbreviation for "interlaced"; this indicates that only the even lines, then the odd lines of each frame (each image called a video field) are drawn alternately, so that only half the number of actual image frames are used to produce video. A related display resolution is 1080p, which also has 1080 lines of resolution; the "p" refers to progressive scan, which indicates that the lines of resolution for each frame are "drawn" on the screen in sequence. The term assumes a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9 (a rectangular TV that is wider than it is tall), so the 1080 lines of vertical resolution implies 1920 columns of horizontal resolution, or 1920 pixels × 1080 lines. ''Chris Ryan's Strike Back'', also known as ''Strike Back: Origins'' on Cinemax, is a six-part British television series based on the novel of the same name written by best-selling author and former soldier of the Special Air Service, Chris Ryan, and is the first series of '' Strike Back''. It was produced by Left Bank Pictures for Sky1. The cast of ''Strike Back'' is led by Richard Armitage and Andrew Lincoln, also starring Orla Brady, Shelley Conn, Colin Salmon and Jodhi May, including a variety of guest appearances including Toby Stephens, Ewen Bremner, Dhaffer L'Abidine, Shaun Parkes and Alexander Siddig. The series follows John Porter (Armitage), a former British Special Forces soldier, who is drafted back into service by Section 20, a fictional branch of the Defence Intelligence (DI) of the Ministry of Defence. Fox was a pan-Asian pay television channel, owned and operated by Fox Networks Group Asia Pacific, a subsidiary of Disney International Operations. The network operated six subnetworks, all solely branded as Fox; one pan-Asian feed meant for East Asia, then individual feeds for Japan, Thailand, The Philippines, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
