It was designed by the Greenville, South Carolina based architectural firm Beacham and LeGrand and built in 1939. An example of New Deal-era design in the Moderne style, its construction was undertaken using grants by the Public Works Administration program. The L-shaped two-story building on a basement has exterior brick walls set on concrete footings. The original 800-seat auditorium has hardwood flooring on the main floor as well as the stage floor. Fountain Inn is a city in Greenville and Laurens counties in the U.S. state of South Carolina. The population was 7,799 at the 2010 census, up from 6,017 in 2000. It is part of the Greenville– Mauldin– Easley Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Public Works Administration (PWA), part of the New Deal of 1933, was a large-scale public works construction agency in the United States headed by Secretary of the Interior Harold L. Ickes. It was created by the National Industrial Recovery Act in June 1933 in response to the Great Depression. It built large-scale public works such as dams, bridges, hospitals, and schools. Its goals were to spend $3.3 billion (about $10 per person in the U.S.) in the first year, and $6 billion (about $18 dollars per person in the U.S.) in all, to supply employment, stabilize buying power, and help revive the economy. Most of the spending came in two waves in 1933–1935 and again in 1938. Hillcrest High School is a public high school in Simpsonville, South Carolina, United States, and is one of the largest high schools in the Greenville County School District. It is the largest school district in the state of South Carolina and the 44th largest in the US.
