Foundation Of Tertiary Institutions Of The Northern Metropolis
Foundation of Tertiary Institutions of the Northern Metropolis, FOTIM, is the biggest academic association in South Africa. FOTIM consists of nine universities and universities of technology in the Gauteng, Limpopo Province and North West Province. FOTIM was created during 1995. The purpose of its creation is for regional collaboration between universities and universities of technology in the northern region of South Africa. Some major projects of FOTIM include: Gauteng and Environs Library Consortium and VUMA. Projects The Gauteng and Environs Library Consortium (GAELIC) remains the largest and most prominent project of FOTIM. As a result of the work of this project, all member institutions have now implemented the INNOPAC library system, which is funded by the Andrew W Mellon Foundation. Gauteng ( ) is one of the nine provinces of South Africa. The name in Sotho-Tswana languages means 'place of gold'. Situated on the Highveld, Gauteng is the smallest province by land area in South Africa. Limpopo Province
Limpopo is the northernmost Provinces of South Africa, province of South Africa. It is named after the Limpopo River, which forms the province's western and northern borders. The capital and largest city in the province is Polokwane, while the provincial legislature is situated in Lebowakgomo. The province is made up of 3 former homelands of Lebowa, Gazankulu and Venda and the former parts of the Transvaal province. The Limpopo province was established as one of the new nine provinces after South Africa's first democratic election on the 27th of April 1994. North West is a province of South Africa. Its capital is Mahikeng. The province is located to the west of the major population centre of Gauteng and south of Botswana. History North West was incorporated after the end of Apartheid in 1994, and includes parts of the former Transvaal Province and Cape Province, as well as most of the former bantustan of Bophuthatswana. The University of Limpopo is a university in the Limpopo Province, South Africa. It was formed on 1 January 2005, by the merger of the University of the North and the Medical University of South Africa (MEDUNSA). These previous institutions formed the Turfloop and MEDUNSA campuses of the university, respectively. In 2015 the MEDUNSA campus split and became the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University. History The University of the North, nicknamed "Turfloop" after its location, was established in 1959 under the apartheid regime's policy of separate ethnically-based institutions of higher learning policy. The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is a public university located in Johannesburg, South Africa.
