Fouad Shehab Command And Staff College
The Fouad Shehab Command and Staff College (CSC) ( ar, كلية فؤاد شهاب للقيادة والأركان ''Kouliyat Fouad Chehab lelkiyada' wal'arkan'') is a Lebanese Armed Forces facility that functions as a graduate school for the Lebanese Army in addition to other Arab armies. It was originally established in 1974 as the ''Center of Higher Military Education''. The college is named after the former Lebanese Army commander-in-chief and former Lebanese president Fuad Chehab. History The LAF CSC was founded on September 1, 1974 under the name ''Center of Higher Military Education'' and headquartered at the LAF headquarters in Yarze, it was later renamed on January 24, 1980 into ''College of Higher Military Education'', ultimately it was called ''Command & Staff College'' on August 18, 1983 and headquartered since then at the town of Rihania. Fuad Chehab
Fouad Abdullah Chehab ( ar, فُؤادْ عبد الله شِهاب; 19 March 1902 – 25 April 1973) was a Lebanese general and statesman who served as President of Lebanon from 1958 to 1964. He is considered to be the founder of the Lebanese Army after Lebanon gained independence from France, and became its first commander in 1946. Born in Ghazir to a family that traced its origins to nobility, Chehab joined the French Army in 1919. He was appointed Prime Minister of Lebanon by the outgoing president Bechara El Khoury, who resigned due to widespread demonstrations against his administration, and tasked Chehab with the role of organizing the next presidential election, in which Camille Chamoun was elected. During the 1958 Lebanon crisis between Chamoun and Muslim leaders, he prevented the army from siding with the government or the opposition, and refused any request to do so. Yarze
Yarze ( ar, يرزة) is a village in Baabda District southeast of Beirut in Lebanon. The headquarters of the Lebanese Ministry of Defense is located in Yarze. This facility includes the Lebanese Military Museum. In October 1990, following General Michel Aoun’s defeat in his ill-fated War of Liberation (1989–1990), the Syrian army took over the Ministry of Defence building in Yarze and removed all the ''Deuxiceme Bureau'' (Military Intelligence) files. Lebanese Army Military Academy
The Lebanese Army Military Academy ( ar, الكلية الحربية ''Al Kulliya al Harbiya'') is a part of the Lebanese Armed Forces. The academy is situated at Shikri Ghanem military base, Faiyadiyeh, Baabda District, and is attached administratively to the command and administration department. It is one of the oldest military institutions in Lebanon, and was founded in Damascus in 1921 under the French mandate. History Following World War I, the French Army organized different army units in the mandated countries. As a result, the necessity for national officers, translators and specialists was needed in order to establish departments for these units and then to become preparation for their independence.
