Fort McMurray-Conklin
Fort McMurray-Conklin was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using first-past-the-post balloting from 2012 to 2019. History The electoral district was created in the 2010 Alberta boundary re-distribution. It was created from the electoral district of Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo which was split in half to accommodate population growth which has occurred in the region over the past decade due to exploitation and development of the oil sands. Representation history The riding's first representative was Progressive Conservative Don Scott, who served one term until defeated by Wildrose leader Brian Jean. Jean subsequently changed his affiliation to United Conservative when the two parties merged. The Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta (often referred to colloquially as Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta) was a provincial centre-right party in the Canadian province of Alberta that existed from 1905 to 2020. The United Conservative Party of Alberta (UCP) is a conservative political party in the province of Alberta, Canada. It was established in July 2017 as a merger between the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta and the Wildrose Party. When established, the UCP immediately formed the Official Opposition in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The UCP won a majority mandate in the 2019 Alberta general election to form the government of Alberta. Brian Michael Jean (born February 3, 1963) is a Canadian politician who has served as the minister of Jobs, Economy and Northern Development since 2022 and the member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche since March 16, 2022. He was leader of the Opposition and the last leader of the Wildrose Party from 2015 to 2017 before its merger into the United Conservative Party (UCP). Keith Donald Charles Scott (born c. 1966) is a Canadian lawyer and former politician who served as the mayor of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, and as an MLA and Cabinet minister for the Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta. He currently works for the Métis Nation of Alberta as an executive director.
