Foros Spur ( bg, рид Форос, ‘Rid Foros’ \'rid 'fo-ros\) is the 7.5 km long and 5.7 km wide rocky ridge forming the southeast extremity of Gromshin Heights on the east side of northern Sentinel Range in Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It surmounts Rutford Ice Stream to the east and lower Vicha Glacier to the west. The feature is named after Foros Point on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. Mount Warren () is a mountain rising to in Gromshin Heights, just north of the turn in Newcomer Glacier on the east side of northern Sentinel Range in Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It surmounts Newcomer Glacier to the west and south, and Vicha Glacier to the northeast. Antarctic Place-names Commission
The Antarctic Place-names Commission was established by the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute in 1994, and since 2001 has been a body affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria. The Commission approves Bulgarian place names in Antarctica, which are formally given by the President of the Republic according to the Bulgarian Constitution (Art. 98) and the established international practice. The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) is an interdisciplinary body of the International Science Council (ISC). SCAR coordinates international scientific research efforts in Antarctica, including the Southern Ocean. SCAR's scientific work is administered through several discipline-themed ''science groups''. Mount Lanning
Mount Lanning () is a mountain, high, located at the south side of Newcomer Glacier, southeast of Mount Warren, in the northern portion of the Sentinel Range, Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It forms the north extremity of Sostra Heights, and surmounts Sabazios Glacier to the southwest and Anchialus Glacier to the southeast. The mountain was first mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos from 1957 to 1959, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for 1st Lieutenant Delmar L. Lanning of the United States Air Force who participated in establishing South Pole Station in the 1956–57 season. Vicha Glacier ( bg, ледник Вича, lednik Vicha, ) is the 27 km long and 6 km wide glacier in Gromshin Heights on the east side of northern Sentinel Range in Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. It is situated northeast of Newcomer Glacier and southwest of Yamen Glacier. The glacier drains southwards along the east slopes of Mount Ulmer and Mount Ojakangas, then turns southeast at Mount Washburn, flows east of Mount Cornwell and Mount Warren, and southwest of Branishte Peak, and together with Newcomer Glacier joins Rutford Ice Stream south of Foros Spur. |
Rutford Ice Stream
Rutford Ice Stream () is a major Antarctic ice stream, about long and over wide, which drains southeastward between the Sentinel Range, Ellsworth Mountains and Fletcher Ice Rise into the southwest part of Ronne Ice Shelf. Named by US-ACAN for geologist Robert Hoxie Rutford, a member of several USARP expeditions to Antarctica; leader of the University of Minnesota Ellsworth Mountains Party, 1963-1964. Rutford served as Director of the Division of Polar Programs, National Science Foundation, 1975-1977. The ice stream is situated in a deep trough which is a tectonic feature between the Ellsworth Mountains and the Fletcher Promontory.
