Forever Friends (film)
''Forever Friends'' () is a 1996 Hong Kong released Taiwanese film, Taiwanese war film, war-comedy film directed by Kevin Chu, starring Taiwan's popular "four little heavenly kings" (Nicky Wu, Alec Su, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Jimmy Lin). The original Taiwanese version of the film in Mandarin Chinese language was released in 1995 under the title "號角響起" (pinyin: Hao jiao xiang qi) which literally translate to "sounded horns". With the raising popularity of the "four little heavenly kings" in Hong Kong, the film was dubbed in Cantonese and renamed to a more comical title which literally translate to "four not normal youngsters" in order to cater more to the Hong Kong audiences. Kevin Chu
Kevin Chu or Chu Yen-ping (; born December 1950) is a Taiwanese film director. Chu once said in an interview that he is "not an artist," but rather "a movie factory that puts out products to match the season", and is compared to Hong Kong director Wong Jing. Career Chu studied in Soochow University (Taiwan), Soochow University, and began to work in a studio of Central Motion Picture Company next to the school. In 1980 Chu directed his first film, ''The Clown''. The film is a successful comedy, which boosted the career of Taiwanese comedian Hsu Pu-liao, and began a series of successful and formulaic collaboration between Chu and Hsu. Hsu became known as "Taiwanese Chaplin", and Chu's ''The Funny Couple'' in 1984 with Hsu and child talent "Little Bing-bing" pays heavy homage to Chaplin's ''City Lights''. Xiao Hu Dui
Xiao Hu Dui (Chinese: 小虎隊), also known as the Little Tigers, were a Taiwanese boy band formed in 1988. The band consisted of Alec Su, Nicky Wu and Julian Chen. The trio rose to fame during the late 1980s, achieving success in their native Taiwan and throughout Asia. Their success led to the recognition, popularity and creation of Taiwanese idol boy bands and other pop acts. Xiao Hu Dui are cited as the first idol band. After a brief hiatus, the group disbanded in 1995. The three members went on to pursue solo careers. They sold over 15 million albums. Conscription In Taiwan
Taiwan has maintained a policy of conscription for all qualified males of military age since 1951. The Taiwanese government planned originally to end this policy in 2014, but abolishing conscription is controversial among Taiwanese society, and hence the government has not yet created a firm schedule for its abolition. Females from the outlying islands within the province of Fuchien, which are geographically closest to mainland China, were also required to serve in a civil defense role, although this requirement has been dropped since the lifting of martial law. Although the majority of all enlisted positions in the ROC Armed Forces have been and are currently filled by draftees, the government intends to gradually expand the number of volunteer soldiers with the eventual goal of forming an all volunteer military. The Republic of China Army (ROCA), previously known as the Chinese Nationalist Army or Nationalist Revolutionary Army and unofficially as the Taiwanese Army, is the largest branch of the Republic of China Armed Forces. Wu Nien-jen (; born ; 5 August 1952) is a Taiwanese screenwriter, Film director, director, and writer. He is one of the most prolific and highly regarded scriptwriters in Taiwan and a leading member of the New Taiwanese Cinema, although he has also acted in a number of films. He starred in Edward Yang's 2000 film ''Yi Yi''. Wu is a well-known supporter of the Democratic Progressive Party and has filmed commercials for the party.
