Forester Augustus Obeysekera
Forester Augustus Obeyesekere (7 August 1880 – 26 December 1961) was a prominent colonial era legislator from Ceylon. He was the Speaker of the State Council of Ceylon and a member of the Legislative Council of Ceylon. Born to Sir Solomon Christoffel Obeyesekere a member of the Legislative Council, F A Obeysekera was educated at Royal College, Colombo, where he captained the cricket team at the Royal-Thomian and played for the Singhalese Sports Club. He later studied at Cambridge University. He was elected an unofficial member from the Southern Province Central (Matara) to the Legislative Council in the 1924 Legislative Council election and retained his seat till the Legislative Council was dissolved and replaced by the State Council in the 1931 State Council election, when he was elected as deputy speaker. Bandaranaike Family
The Bandaranaike family is a Sri Lankan Sinhalisation of Kerala Tamil family origin that is prominent in family politics. Along with many members who have been successful politician across generations, the family includes three Prime Ministers and one President of Sri Lanka. History The origins of the Bandaranayaka family in Sri Lanka is claimed to be from the person known as Nilaperumal Pandaram who was from India and served he was high priest of the Temple of Nawagamuwa Pattini Devalaya. The family changed their name to the Sinhalese form of Bandaranaike and they adopt Portuguese name like Dias. They served the Portuguese rule and got social privileges and later on Dutch. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. Ezlynn Deraniyagala
Ezlynn Isabel Améliè Deraniyagala (1908 – 1973) was a Sri Lankan lawyer and feminist, who was the first female barrister in the country. Early life and education Ezlynn Isabel Améliè Obeyesekere was born in 1908, the only daughter and second child of F. A. Obeysekera, the speaker of the State Council of Ceylon and a member of the Legislative Council of Ceylon, and Anna Isabella née Sykes. She attended Hillwood College, Kandy before finishing her secondary schooling at St. Bridget's Convent, Colombo. She then attended St Anne's College, Oxford, where she was president of the Geldart Society. In 1934 she obtained her degree and was called to the bar at the Inner Temple. In 1935 she was appointed as an Advocate in the Supreme Court of Ceylon, becoming the first female barrister in Ceylon.
