Forden
Forden ( cy, Ffordun) is a village near Welshpool in Powys, Wales, formerly in the historic county of Montgomeryshire. It forms part of the community (and community council) of Forden, Leighton and Trelystan with the neighbouring settlements of Trelystan, Leighton and Kingswood. Looking down on the parish is the Long Mountain, which stretches north eastwards from Forden through the border between Montgomeryshire and Shropshire, England. Forden Railway Station
Forden railway station was a station in Forden, Powys, Wales. The station was opened on 10 June 1861 by the Oswestry and Newtown Railway on the section of line between Welshpool and Newtown. The station originally had a single platform on the western side of line (along with a goods shed and associated siding), but in 1897 a passing loop was installed here along with signal box and second platform. After the 1923 Grouping, the Great Western Railway took over operation of the line and two year later they doubled the section eastwards to Welshpool to add additional capacity on what had become a busy main line. Service levels were modest throughout this period, with the 1922 timetable having five eastbound and four westbound trains calling Mon-Sat and no Sunday service. Church Of St Michael And All Angels, Forden
The Church of St Michael and All Angels is a church in Forden, Powys, Wales, located about half a mile to the west of the road from Welshpool to Montgomery. For some three hundred years the church was the burial-place of the family of Devereux, whose estate of Nantcribba is within the parish. The marble font, oval in shape, was presented in 1794 by Richard Edmunds, Esq. It was enlarged in 1830. The church and stained glass was designed by Thomas Nicholson and Edward Burne-Jones. Forden Gaer
Forden Gaer, Y Gaer, Caer Flos and Lavrobrinta are respective English, Welsh and possible Latin names for the Roman fort in the township of Thornbury, in the parish of Forden, in the old county of Montgomeryshire, which now forms part of Powys, Wales . The fort lies on the E bank of the Severn a short distance N of Montgomery, and covers an important crossing of the river close to the historic ford at Rhydywhyman. It is likely that this is the same fort as Lavrobrinta, which is mentioned in the Ravenna Cosmography. Nantcribba
Nantcribba is a township in the parish of Forden in the historic county of Montgomeryshire and now in Powys It is also the site of Nantcribba Castle which was built by the Corbett, Barons of Caus, of Caus Castle in Shropshire. To the south of the Castle site was Nantcribba Hall, which was owned by the Devereux family and the Marquises of Hereford. In the 19th century Nantcribba became part of the Leighton Hall estates. Montgomery, Powys
Montgomery ( cy, Trefaldwyn; translates to ''the town of Baldwin'') is a town and community in Powys, Wales. It is the traditional county town of the historic county of Montgomeryshire to which it gives its name and is within the Welsh Marches border area. The town centre lies about west of the England–Wales border. Montgomery Castle was started in 1223 and its parish church in 1227. Other locations in the town include The Old Bell Museum, the Offa's Dyke Path, the Robber's Grave and the town wall. Long Mountain ( cy, Cefn Digoll) is a hill straddling the boundary between Powys (Wales) and Shropshire (England) to the east of Welshpool though the summit at 408 metres (1,339 feet) at Beacon Ring () is within Wales. Trelystan
Trelystan is a remote parish and Townships in Montgomeryshire, township on the border of the historic county of Montgomeryshire with Shropshire. Trelystan now forms part of the community of Forden, Leighton and Trelystan in Powys. Trelystan was a chapel of ease within the parish of Worthen and it also served the township of Leighton. In some old sources the parish is also referred to as Wolston Mynd. Leighton Hall, Powys
Leighton Hall is an estate located to the east of Welshpool in the historic county of Montgomeryshire, now Powys, in Wales. Leighton Hall is a listed grade I property. It is located on the opposite side of the valley of the river Severn to Powis Castle. The Leighton Hall Estate is particularly notable for the Hall which was decorated and furnished by the Craces to designs by Pugin in his Houses of Parliament style, and for the Home Farm, a model farm, which was to be in the forefront of the Victorian industrialised ''High Farming''. Leighton Hall was also the birthplace of the much disparaged hybrid Cupressocyparis leylandii hedge tree.
